Rappelling/ Canyoneering Practice Session

This is a practice session among friends for people already familiar with the skills. No one is a professional instructor. Beginner instruction won't be provided.

(However, if you really want to learn and are willing to "pay it forward" by hosting some other skill building events - even a beginner hike with some map reading -email Andre we'll discuss it.)

Contact Andre with any questions.

Andre, thank you for this! A very professional done workshop. I learned a great deal and feel I now have at least a decent basic understanding of how canyoneering works and could probably sort it out myself if I absolutely had to (hopefully I never will!) Thanks also to Kennedy and Chris for their valuable help.

Thanks Andre! That was lot of excellent technique in one afternoon. Thanks for walking us through the process end-to-end. It was good to see the differences between canyoneering and rock. The demonstration of the anchor method has given me some great ideas for alpine anchors.

Thanks again Andre and Kenndy for taking the time to pass on some knowledge to the novices. Always great to learn how to do things for yourself to take bigger and better adventures.

Hey rob, you mentioned that you posted a hike for noon tomorrow, but I don't see it on the site. I'm supposed to go climbing tomorrow, but thought you might want to know about the posting thing....

Watch the GW - they are closing some eastbound lanes. West-bound has a ramp closed and was a mess last weekend.

Is this going to be at Harriman state park?

    July 14

  • Rob

I have a good climbing harness, but need to purchase descender. Can you suggest one? Also, plan to use bike helmet for now if that's OK.

    July 14

    • Andre

Whatever descender you're comfortable with. An ATC or Figure 8 is fine. I'll bring a Pirana and ATS for people to play with.

The post-RSVP questions are mandatory - I've removed people who didn't answer them. RSVP again if you're interested.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
