Bike the North County Trail: Bronx to Brewster NY, 50 miles of scenic ride!

The plan is to ride north starting at Van Cortland Park (in the Bronx) and ending in Brewster, NY.  We will take the Metro North back to the city.   (you will need a special bike permit to take your bike on the Metro North.  It is $5 and last a lifetime).

This ride will be close to 50 miles, but not very hilly and mostly on a dedicated trail (although there will be some street riding).

You should come prepared for a full day of riding. Make sure to check the air pressure in your tires before the trip. I would recommend bringing 2-3 liters of water and a full lunch with some snacks.

I had to take my bike in for servicing. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to make it...

I'm on my way, taking the 4 into the bronx then biking over. I budgeted an hour for this, hopefully it won't take longer.

Have any of you done this before, riding up and taking Metro North back? This will be my first time doing that, and it seems they have lots of regs about when you can have your bike on if you're riding into Grand Central, and how many bikes on a weekend. Are they lax about that sort of thing, or are we going to need to plan something out?

Please provide your phone # if needed. Are we taking train back from some point or riding entire distance up and back? Thanks.

We will go at a moderate speed -- Not so fast that people can't keep up, but fast enough so we work up a sweat. Also, we will take breaks along the way to re-group. A road bike should work on this trail.

I'm not personally planning to race through the whole journey, so Eric if you're more at cruising speed I'll probably see you more than the racers!

I have a beach cruiser that is so slow it makes the Brompton look like a Porcha. I would have to rent another bike for that day. Looking forward to this trek.

I would love to join - please confirm if this trail is meant for a road bike with thin tires.

This sounds like it will be a great trip! I'm familiar with the trail but haven't had the chance to ride it yet. Approximately how fast does this group travel (I have a slow-ish bike, Brompton, and a faster hybrid Trek to choose from)?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
