November Hiking in the Adirondacks - Advanced/Intermediate

  • Nov 16, 2012 · 4:00 PM
  • Keene

Still want to get out of town this weekend for a challenging hike?

There are still spots left for this weekend's Adirondacks hike.

Take a look, there is still time!  Comfortable hostel, Group dinner on Saturday.

And the Adirondacks are in peak season for hiking in November!

The Hikes:
Saturday: Advanced hike.  Giant Mountain by way of Bald Peak and the Rocky Peak Ridge.  Roughly a 12 Mile hike with 5500' of total elevation and beautiful views.

(A few people are considering a moderate hike for Saturday.)

Sunday: A six mile hike - tbd

Getting a Spot: The cost of the Hostel per person is $50 for the weekend. It's best to pay by paypal to reserve a spot.  I can give you PayPal information once you RSVP.

I will provide refunds up to a day before the trip.

Prerequisites: Hikers should have some winter experience, and  should have at least two 10 mile hikes of over 3000' of elevation two months before this trip.  Giant Mountain is a formidable mountain and we may hit winter conditions.  So, please be sure you are a solid intermediate hiker with winter experience before you RVSP.  Contact Kennedy if you are not sure.

Food and Lodging:
We'll organize a group dinner Saturday night.

Plan to bring your own breakfasts, but if we get enough kitchen volunteers we can have group breakfasts as well.

Plan to bring your own lunches and trail food as well.

Standard winter hiking gear suitable for single digit temperatures

That includes:
- Wicking base-layer, insulating mid-layer, and water-proof shell
- Winter hat, gloves, socks
- Chemical hand and foot warmers

Traction devices required - no exceptions.   (e.g; Micro-spikes, etc.)

Expect temperatures in the 30s during the day and low twenties at night.  Come prepared for low temps on the summits.

Estimated Cost:
$50 for lodging.

$5 - $10 for food if we decide to cook a group meal
$20 to $30 for snowshoes if you rent them (may not need them this time)

Riders, please cover all gas and tolls for the trip!

See you on the trails!

Hi Kennedy just out of curiosity could you share the name of the hostel? Also is there a charge for the guided lessons?
