Mt. Greylock, MA - Backpacking - Winter Gear Shakeout This Weekend
Sorry for the short Notice! - Backpacking this weekend - 14 mile loop, total elevation 5000' over 3 mountains. Highest elevation 3,491' Back early Sunday.
Time to test the winter gear!
Friday Nov. 30th: Leave NYC around 5pm and drive 3 hours north to the Mt. Greylock State Reservation in Mass. Camp near the entrance on arrival.
Saturday Dec 1st: Intermediate hike. We'll cover 9 + miles and go over Mt. Williams, Mt. Fitch, and Mt. Greylock before arriving at the Pecks Brook Shelter (lean-to) for the night.
Sunday: Up early..(hopefully!) and hike 4+ miles back to the cars. Drive back to the City by 3PM

Prerequisites: Hikers should have backpacking experience and have studied preparedness for cold weather camping. Contact Kennedy if you are not sure.
Standard winter hiking gear suitable for single digit temperatures
- Wicking base-layer, insulating mid-layer, and water-proof shell
- Winter hat, gloves, socks
- Chemical hand and foot warmers
Traction devices required - no exceptions. (e.g; Micro-spikes, etc.)
Expect temperatures in the 30s during the day and low twenties at night. Come prepared for a mix of snow and rain.
Estimated Cost: Tolls and gas for the driver.
