Lets backpack the Appalachian trail from near the CT border to Cold Spring.
The Appalachian Trail runs for over 2,100 miles between Georgia, and Maine, with 88 of those in New York State. As a challenge to ourselves, lets try to lighten our loads, and conquer 40 of those miles over Labor Day weekend.
On Saturday morning we will take a Metro-North train to the Appalachian Trail stop, which leaves us 5 miles away from the CT border of the trail. Over the next two days we walk South on the Trail, covering about 20 miles each day. The ultimate goal would be to make it to Cold Spring on Sunday night in time for a hearty dinner before boarding a late evening train to New York.
We will coordinate on planning some meals for the trip. Meals should be as lightweight as possible.
We will endeavor to stay in the AT Shelters, bringing lightweight tents only as a backup.
Due to the strenuous nature of this hike, we ask that only people who have hiked with us before attend this trip.
You will need:
Sturdy hiking boots
Water treatment (iodine/aquamira or a filter)
