Sorry for all the date changes, but we finally have it sorted out now!
This hike is beyond advanced, rated "aarrrrgggg"
Terrain: 7 to 11 peaks and a world of suffering
Elevation Gain: 9,000ft
Distance: 22 miles
Hiking Pace: Fast for an unrelenting 12 to 15 hoursHike Route:
I'm switching this from the ADks to the White Mountains. The Presidential Traverse is the king of northeast hiking, cover Mt. Washington and 7 to 11 other peaks (depending on you're hard-core-ness). Hours of hiking above the tree lines makes this one of the most scenic hikes (and exposed) hikes around. The Plan:
We'll drive up Friday night, leaving the city as early as possible and staying at a hotel in Gorham. It's a 7 hour driver, so we'll get in late.
We will attempt the traverse either Saturday or Sunday, depending on the weather. The other day will be reserved for another great hike in the area.
We'll drive home Monday. Getting a Spot:
Spots are by-approval for proven hikers only. Email me with your hiking experience if you haven't completed a 20+ mile hike with me personally. Gear:
Standard day hiking gear, plus additional food, water, and bivy gear.
Special note - Mt Washington's extreme weather is world famous. Full gore-tex pants and jackets, plus microspikes and layers for freezing temperatures are required. (Take this seriously!
Lows this weekend on in the 40s in the valley, which means there could be ice on the summit.)
