Thanksgivukkah-Group Cooking

Ok so this is a test event. I don't know if many of you are without plans this Thanksgiving. Maybe you are too far away from home, stuck here for something work related,  or etc. If you find this is you, and you are feeling bummed that you will miss out on the celebration this year, you are invited to join us for games, dinner conversation, and a Thanksgivukkah feast to remember. This event will close five days before the scheduled date, and will only be held if there is enough interest.

You are probably wondering what Thanksgivukkah is exactly... well this year is a special one! Not since 1888 has Thanksgiving and the first day of Chanukah landed on the same day, and it won’t happen again for another 77,798 years! This is once-in-an-eternity opportunity to simultaneously celebrate two favorite holidays, one quintessentially American, the other quintessentially Jewish, but don't worry youi don't have to be Jewish to join us!

For this event we will be cooking together (I will be providing the Turkey, and some other dishes). Since we will be cooking our feast as a group I ask you to pick a relatively simple recipe that doesn't take too long to make (20-25mins tops). Your dish can be something traditionally American and served on Thanksgiving, something traditionally Jewish, or a mash up of the two. Please bring all of your ingredients prepped and ready to go so that things move more smoothly in the kitchen.

Wine and Cocktails are optional as always, and we will have some too!

*I have a small 7lb Yorkie Poo named pepper. He is hypoallergenic and super friendly. If you have a problem with dogs please refrain from attending this event.

The fine print:

Please  pick out what you would like to cook and confirm that you can make this event on the night of November 28th. Let us know which dish you want to cook in your RSVP so we can avoid any repeats. Each cook may bring one non-cook to enjoy the meal!

Cancellations: Please be 100% committed to attending this event, and cancel 48 hours in advance. There is limited space and each member puts in a lot of time, effort, and planning into each of these events. Late cancellations affect the group as a whole. If you cancel with less than 48 hours notice, or are a no show you could be removed from the group.

I will be bringing a pear and/or apple dessert of some kind - I'm thinking either a pear-walnut tart or a pear and apple pie. Pre-baked, so no need to take up valuable oven space. It looks like we don't have a lot of folks bringing green things yet, so IF no one else has plans to cover this, I will also make some kind of braised greens. If you were planning to do so, please let me know and I will happily stick to dessert. Look forward to meeting you all!

Ok just so we don't have all the same stuff:
I am doing a maple roated turkey with corn bread stuffing, whipped sweet potatoes and bannanas with honey, Cranberry Chutney, and spiked apple cider.

i'm pretty sure the kitchen will be pretty crazy so I am going to premake what I can, and the turkey will be going of course. The oven will be at 350 so if you need the oven try to choose something that can go at that temperature. I will do the last 20 mins of the potatoes at 400 while the turkey sits.

Here is the story with the latke plan-- I have had them precooked at parties before and they just really are not that good. I'm happy to make them and they are great, but they really cannot be made in advance. If you have a food processor and everyone helps to peel a few potatoes, I can do it and they will be great. But they won't taste good if I make them at home,
    Let me know.

Let me know if you have enough canola or vegetable oil or if I should bring that too.

I have everything you need. Just about every kitchen tensil. It depends how much oil you need. I have about 1/3 bottle of canola left. I look forward to trying them!

90% sure I can make it-- should know for sure after this weekend. If I come, I would love to make latkes, although it may be too much trouble given much would have to be done on the spot. But I make awesome latkes!!
