Comfort Foods (What would Grandma Make?)-Potluck Dinner

RSVPs Open Oct 28th at 12PM

Let's take a moment to remember our childhoods and get together to create a pot luck dinner that is made up of all of our favorite dishes. Since we all hail from different places it will be interesting to see what everyone considers their comfort foods to be.

To Participate you should be willing to make at least one dish that was one of your childhood favorites. While many of us didn't consume any alcohol back then, let's add a grown up twist by giving the option to bring some wine or cocktails too! After all what is a dinner party without?

This is a potluck dinner but you can do finishing touches at the apt.

The fine print:

Please pick out what you would like to cook and confirm that you can make this event on the night of November 11th. Let us know which dish you want to cook in your RSVP so we can avoid any repeats. Each cook may bring one non-cook to enjoy the meal!

Cancellations: Please be 100% committed to attending this event, and cancel 48 hours in  advance. There is limited space and each member puts in a lot of time, effort, and planning into each of these events. Late cancellations affect the group as a whole. If you cancel with less than 48 hours notice, or are a no show you could be removed from the group.

    Victoria,
If not a problem, I'd like to reheat the meatloaf in your Oven,
as it's in a metal baking pan.

Sorry about that, Wendy. It froze a little and I hit "post" more than once, which apparently resulted in my comment being posted more than once. Opps.

I made about 3/4 lb of pasta (about 3/4 of a store-bought box). And I have plenty of ice cream and cider, so I say the more the merrier!

I made a 2 lb meatloaf (instead of 3) and 2 lbs of mashed potatoes, plus a tray of brownies, so even when I try to cut down, it's still a lot!

  • Michelle

I'll make more mac n cheese then!

Yikes you guys, I just came home to all of these messages. I had invited some friends because there was such a small number... I hope there is enough food!!

    November 11, 2012

  • Michelle

ok Avi's friends can't make it that far out short notice so yes small potions i'm making a quarter recipe

    November 11, 2012

  • kate

I'm going ahead with the pasta after all, but following Wendy's lead with a petite portioning.

    November 11, 2012

  • Wendy

I'm making everything as originally planned....just fewer portions

    November 11, 2012

  • Michelle

Well I don't know yet. Avi is still asleep lol. I will let you know if we are expecting more people ASAP

    November 11, 2012

    • kate

No problem. Alfredo sauce is quick. And if we find out past the deadline for fresh fettuccine, I can just use good quality store-bought pasta.

      November 11, 2012

    • Michelle

Avi just texted them all so will know soon hopefully

      November 11, 2012

  • Michelle

I still plan on making everything as planned. Going to see if a I can round up some of Avi's friends so that we are not left with massive amounts of left overs 0-:-)

    November 11, 2012

    • kate

Should I still make the pasta then?

      November 11, 2012

  • kate

So since our numbers are dwindling, if no one objects, I'm going to skip the pasta and just bring the ice cream and mulled spiked cider.

    November 11, 2012

  • Michelle

Hey Victoria sent you an email...I don't have your number.

Probably, griot (baked or fried pork) or haitian patties filled with either chicken, fish, or ground beef. I'm moving this weekend, so I'll make whatever turns out to be most convenient.

    • Nikki V.

Ah, my apologies, but we will not make it tonight...the move is running behind. We're worried that even if we make it to you (a bit late), we won't make it back for the PATH train curfew. Sorry for the late notice!

PLEASE NOTE: There is a cat. She will be put in the back bedroom to hang out (she likes to participate in everything)- BUT as much as i clean up after her, there will be dander that is unavoidable. Please keep this in mind if you have severe allergies. Sorry for not thinking of this earlier.

I'm having trouble tracking down my family's chocolate chip cookie recipe. Though I think it might just be the Joy of Cooking's with twice the butter, I'd rather not chance it. So, I'll be bribing my other favorite childhood dessert: cookie dough ice cream. (Though I'll be making it now rather than buying it.)

I am going to make mac n cheese, and my favorite childhood cocktail (yes i drank these) Mudslides!! Which leaves me to ask if you have a blender that I can use? Also I would like to use the oven for my mac n cheese so it's fresh. Please let me know if this is ok.
