FOOD CHALLENGE: Authentic Hunan Cuisine featuring SPICY RABBIT HEAD

  • Sep 1, 2014 · 1:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Of course, spicy Rabbit Head is optional, and costs only $3.50 per head, I mean, per person, or per head.. I mean, whatever.

This foodies event will take place after our Garden Walk.

This restaurant receives 4 starts on yelp.

White linen service, and very nice decor.

Round table, family style for ice breaker games.
Guarantee you'll get to know us really well with this one, may be a little too well ;p

Will order some signature dishes:

1. Big Dragon Bone in Huge Hot pot
2. Chinese yam with Veal chop in casserole
3. Crispy whole fire dragon fish
4. sauteed pig fingers in casserole

all under $20..

and the rest as you choose. About 70% of the dishes here are spicy. CASH ONLY.

Estimated cost should be under $20 per person (excluding taxes, tip and meetup fee.)

Seriously RSVP.  A rounded up fee of up to $3 will be added to your bill.

May be a slight wait due to holiday.

This event is preceded by a walk in the Gardens event that occurs at 11:30am earlier. Separate RSVPs required.

No shows will be notated.

Although a 10 min walk from the subways, this is also one of those restaurants with a wait list, as there are only TWO Hunan cuisines in all of Flushing.

After wards we can head out for discounted bubble tea courtesy of your organizer.  You'll need it after this spicy meetup!

Because it is a holiday, I preordered with the restaurant and placed a deposit on Friday for 10 course meal. They also went to Manhattan sister restaurant to pick up the rabbit heads. I expect that you take this RSVP seriously. Drinks and rabbit heads are separate and pay as you go, to the wait staff. Thank you and see you all there. Last minute gate crashers has no guarantee and may sit as overflow on separate table and is to order a la carte. No lunch special today. Meetup fee still applies. CASH only.

OK Nancy, I picked out these 3 dishes, but you don't have to include them all: Sauteed pork stomach with smoked bamboo, BBQ fish Hunan style, and Smoked duck Hunan Style. Thanks.

I'm happy with all foods but am allergic to shellfish. Thought I'd throw that out there. :-)

    August 26, 2014

    • ...

I don't think Hunan is known for seafood as it is rather in land.. but there may be a sizzling seafood dish though....

      August 27, 2014

  • CM

Nancy, I can take some spicy food but would be nice if not every dish is spicy, at least not too spicy :))? I also don't eat lamb, goat, mutton, and cheeses made from their milk, but I am fine if you order them. I'll just skip those dishes. I have no fear of going home hungry!

    Looking forward to the event!

    August 26, 2014

    • ...

LOL. You wont go home hungry. Can you pick out one or two dishes to your liking? I will finalize menu on Friday. So if anyone didnt get it in then.....

      August 26, 2014

  • ...

I will check with restaurant about additional seating as it is a holiday. Meanwhile please check out menu:
    http://www.menupages.com/restaurants/hunan-kitchen-of-grand-sichuan/menu
Most of these items are spicy, so if you cannot tolerate them, please change your RSVP. I may end up pre-ordering dishes to make our event more efficient. So, if you have a request, let me know.

I definitely want a rabbit head and lots of spicy food.

    August 22, 2014

    • ...

I think I figure out why the supply of rabbit head is unpredictable.... they are the byproducts of live kill markets.... guess I am also wrong about the lack of demand.. the fact is, TOO Much demand and NOT enough supply...

      August 22, 2014

    • ...

At least you know these rabbit heads come fresh, not frozen...

      1 · August 22, 2014

  • ...

ok, I hope you looked up youtube and read up instructions on eating a rabbit head..

    http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/17/dining/rabbit-duck-and-fish-heads-reappear-on-the-menu-in-china.html?_r=0

I eat anything between neck and feet, and ears, but no eyes and no heads and no gonads for me!

    August 22, 2014

  • ...

Rabbit heads are not always in demand hence they don't always have in stock. It's a matter of the draw of the days. So if you are certain you want to try this, please comment and I'll check with manager. If no comment then it will just be "luck" on the day of...

Lol I used to do animal rescue work... and kept a bunny from live kill market as pet... she free ranged in my house t but was partially housebroken...

      August 20, 2014

  • ...

I picked up a giant bottle of chilled kinsen plum wine to offset and compliment the spicy food. We can chip in by the glass in site to include bottle opening fee... this wine also has great reviews :-)

    August 20, 2014

  • CM

Nancy, Oops, forgot to ask. Is the food really spicy? I can take some spiciness but do not want too much of it.

    August 7, 2014
