Here is the background on the Protect the Palisades Initiative

In the late 1800’s the Palisades, now a National Natural Monument (June 1983) were under threat of extinction. They were saved by New Jersey’s Governor Foster M. Voorhees, New York’s Governor Theodore Roosevelt and the NJ State Federation of Women’s Clubs. These visionaries had the foresight to preserve this truly remarkable gem of nature that was formed 200 million years ago.

Today the Palisades are under yet another threat due to a few short sighted individuals that changed the previous 35 foot zoned building height in Englewood Cliffs, NJ to a towering 143 feet for LG Electronics Headquarters. This is a great injustice to the legacy of those that protected the Palisades, the vast number of residents and tourists that enjoy the Palisades today but perhaps most importantly to the generations to come. What message does it send to our children when a few thoughtless individuals are allowed to abuse their authority to destroy a natural resource? Do we want our children to explain to their children how the Palisades once looked or do we want them to explain how their parents and grandparents helped protect the Palisades. We need to take a stand and say NO to LG; you must build your building lower! We need to get the message to tens of thousands of people so LG and Englewood Cliffs start realizing that we’re tens of thousands strong. Our request is simple: Can you email this petition link to your friends? Post it on Facebook? Tweet it? http://www.protectthe...
