A KAP session in spring

A KAP Session in Spring for Sunday 4/13/14 @ 9am

Important announcement; this KAP session date has change originally for rain now there is no rain in the forecast but, the winds will be on the low side for a comfortable KAP demonstration. The new date and time is still Sunday 4/13/14 @ 9am. Please let me know if you can still make this meetup.

I will be giving a KAP demonstration and answering any questions you will surely have. The weather will be in the 50's and the winds will be 10 to 15mph.

This type of photography is weather dependent so a session will be cancelled due to rain, sleet, snow, no to low wind and too much wind.
If cancelled the session will be reschedule for the next day the same time unless communicated differently by the organizer of the session.

Note: There is a $8 fee from 8am-4pm to enter the parking lot when you enter the Parking lot go to your left and park at the left corner of the parking lot closest to the water.

Very important please check your emails for any announcements the day before the session for cancellation and/or reschedule.

Fees used to be collected from Memorial Day on so I think at this time it may still be free but have change prepared just in case.

These are coordinates:[masked], [masked] or map link: https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Jones+Beach+Causeway%2FWantagh+State+Pkwy&daddr=Unknown+road&hl=en&sll=40.600594,-73.500938&sspn=0.012789,0.020599&geocode=FSqUawIdHF2e-w%3BFTNzawId4ZGe-w&t=h&gl=us&mra=dme&mrsp=1&sz=16&z=16

Concession stands and vending machines may not be open or operational bring something to drink and eat in case you need it. It's always good idea to wear sunglasses or hat to protect your eyes since you'll be looking up at the kites for some time. See you on Saturday.

Hmm, the map you have listed is 1 Ocean Ave, not 1 Ocean Parkway. When I typed in 1 Ocean Parkway, Jones Beach, then it took me to the correct location. Something for everyone to keep in mind.

Nestor-Never tell anyone what the weather will be. If you are correct, they will forget. If you are wrong they will never forget. I plan on being there, but no earlier than 10 am & even that is optimistic.

For all new to Kite Aerial Photography I recommend this article:
    http://billboyheritagesurvey.wordpress.com/2013/10/09/notes-on-kap/?relatedposts_exclude=3502

It explains all aspects of KAP: terminology, equipment, techniques, knots, possible problems and many others in easy manner. It's illustrated with diagrams and pictures on each topic. Great read thanks to Bill Blake.

Between all of us we can answer some questions but I think general ones maybe in "Discussions" it will be easier to find.

Thank you all for joining, if you go to Pages on this meetup site you will find a resource page that has many links about KAP that will be able to answer all your questions, but there is a possibility that I may try to setup a meeting in March at a location that is central for all new members to discuss how to get started.

Nestor! Any web links to DIY or recommendations to get the kite and equipment up and running before the Meetup? Ed

    Lots of questions, like:
How to trigger the camera in the air?
Size of kite and size of camera?
    Movie camera or still?

    February 16, 2014

  • Stan_Goldstein

It will be ☆ ABSOLUTELY ☆ WONDERFUL ☆ if we can build a kite big enough to hold Nestor and his camera!
