Real-Time Analytics Schema Design and Optimization

  • Jun 21, 2011 · 6:30 PM
  • Buddy Media

An overview of an analytics system and how the schema was optimized to handle the data being collected and queried. Similar to when dealing with relational databases, careful thought must be given to the design of a schema for a document-oriented database. There isn't a one size fits all approach to schema design and fortunately when dealing with MongoDB, schema migrations are fairly easy.

Thought Ryan did a nice job presenting on the subject. Would like to see more about MMS when it's ready.

While constructive feedback is appreciated please remember to be kind to speakers as it takes a lot of effort to prepare to give a talk and present to such a large group. I thought it was pretty heroic for Ryan to present in a sauna :-) I also want to do a follow up session, so if you feel you have a good handle on the subject please get in touch with me.

Title was misleading as it was not a presentation on real time analytics more a teaser on Mongo's up and coming Monitoring Service. Presentation was too fast, too shallow and not engaging.

Always great to hear from Ryan. He is definitely an expert on this topic. I hope that we can get him to present again!

I felt, and perhaps this was just me, at some point this was a sales pitch. =)

    It was great.

Pre-creating documents to avoid spikes was insightful.
Some non-Mongodb tips on Charting libraries was helpful as well. Great after-conversation with Nitz, as expected :-)

I had an e-mail telling me I am signed up for this meeting, but can't find myself on the list. Since I shall be in Portland, OR I am afraid I can't join in.
