This comes up a lot on niche community orientated mailing lists.  It is 
indeed annoying when you get recruiters posting .net positions to Ruby 
user groups, and that is spam.  However I would personally not consider 
a well targeted email for a job opportunity as spam.  At every MongoDB 
user meetup I have been to, there have been plenty of "We're hiring" 
announcements.  I know most people are gainfully employed in this field, 
but a job is a very beneficial thing!  And if I were looking for people, 
I would be at MongoDB meetups and posting on lists because the people 
you want are the people active in the community.
