Cocktails & Conversations: The Multiverse

A joint event between New York Philosophy and New York Sci-Fi and Fantasy.

The evening's theme is the Multiverse and its impact on cosmology and religion. We will also explore the related themes of parallel universes, many-worlds theories, and the nature of reality itself.

We will be starting each discussion round with short science and sci-fi clips that (loosely) follow along with the theme of the evening. The clips come from some of the most esteemed shows that have dealt with parallel/multiple universes over the decades.

Be sure to observe our no-holds-barred no-show policy! http://www.meetup.com/New-York-Philosophy/pages/Membership_Policy/

Join us for food, drinks, and discussions at Irish Rogue.

A Cocktails & Conversations event combines food and drink, a casual Manhattan intellectual environment, and a social atmosphere for New Yorkers to get together, mingle, and discuss interesting topics.

Over the course of the evening, members gather in small groups for discussions. Between each discussion round, everyone socializes and has a chance to order food/drink. With a chance to join several groups throughout the event, attendees have a chance to meet many others while engaging in spirited debates in a highly social atmosphere.

Good venue and a great discussion. Movie clips were not of interest to me and the audio was too loud. Our group was generally in agreement that the questions were not geared towards a philosophical discussion. So we went off the question sheet and guided the discussion ourselves.

Very smart intellectual crowd, that was able to handle this complex and interesting topic brilliantly and creatively. Kudos to all. Most of all it was mad fun!

Brian Greene's works are without parallel. Books by Thorne, Rees, Feynman, and Hawking are also quite good, but Greene's books are comprehensive and very accessible. The new book Universe from Nothing is also decent.

I've been reading books by Brian Greene on Quantum Physics, Parallel Universes, and M Theory so I think I'll really enjoy this.

Saw your "FYI love the Dr. Who Quote!..." -- What? "Join us for food, drinks, and discussions..." -- ???" ...... Dunno, anyway, the one I love [when Tom Baker was in the Brit TV series aeons ago] was Dr. Who's response to a villain's statement [I can only paraphrase]: VILLAIN: "We're going to interrogate, torture, then kill you." DR. WHO: "Well, as long as you get it in the right order."
