  • Hi Jason-

  • Jason, I have not met the professor in question. I am beginning to explore my democratic socialism, as I do feel like it's the closest political philosophy I adhere to. I see that the commentator below me recommends Ashokan as a place for good retreats. I concur, and would also say, if you're looking in that area, consider Frost Valley www.frostvalley.org. Cheers, Brendan

  • Jason, the place I was telling you about is Ashokan (http://www.ashokancenter.org). I think that a wedding might fall under "conferences and retreats." I think it would be an amazing place to have a wedding, and you can get delicious vegan food for sure.

  • Nice meeting you, too. Jason. Hopefully the new BiRequest schedule will enable you to attend again.
    Cheers.

  • Jason,
That's fantastic that you're a Grad Center grad! Yes, it would be great if you could get me in touch with the students you mentioned.

    Thanks!

  • I know how lucky I was to have Profs Miliband & FF Piven at CUNY. They could have taught anywhere, but taught working class students like myself. Miliband emphasized to me that ultimately, he & Poulantzas agreed: at some conjunctions, the state in capitalist society is fully dominated by the haute bourgeois/military elite (Instrumentalism), at others maintenance of capitalist rule requires the hegemonic faction of capitalism to ally itself in a ruling bloc with a mass base (Structuralism).

  • Hi Jason, thanks for your greeting. Have you ever read Miliband's exchange with Nicos Poulantzas - the "Instrumentalism" vs "Structuralism" debate? Truly illuminating for me, on both sides.

  • Hello Jason,
my name is Fabiola and I belong to the compass cultural association meet up group and I see that you might also be interested in consciousness development, I have been to several of the compass meetup sessions and some really extraordinary ideas were shared. I thought you might be interested in them also. Our next meet up will be on Tuesday July 13th. http://www.meetup.com/The-Compass-Cul...
    Hope to see you there!
