You don't have to be a member of the SHSNY Book Club to attend our free meetings; you may well have worthwhile contributions to the conversation or just enjoy hanging out. On Thursday, January 17th from 6:30-8:00 PM, we are discussing the sense of our Selves, our personal identity. The book we read was The Synaptic Self, expressing the apparent consensus among neuroscientists that we ARE our synapses; in effect, the patterns of electrical charges among our neurons. If you're interested, click the little envelope next to my name on the NY Philosophy website, and I'll e-mail you a summary of the book. The meeting will be held at the Muhlenberg public library, 209 West 23rd Street (at 7th Ave) 3rd floor just a block away from numerous subway stations, PATH stations, bus stops and parking.
