BIG APPLE BBQ
The Eighth Annual Big Apple Barbecue Block Party takes place in Madison Square Park June 12-13, 2010, from
11:00 AM – 6:00 PM. The weekend-long event takes place every June and brings together the country’s top pitmasters who cook up their award-winning food for over a hundred thousand barbecue enthusiasts. Set against the beautiful backdrop of Madison Square Park, the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party attracts people from near and far to sustain and celebrate America’s authentic culinary and musical traditions.
Admission to the event is free. Take in the sights, sounds and smells of the event – from great live music to engaging seminars and cooking demonstrations – without ever dropping a dollar. The country’s best barbecue is available from top pitmasters for only $8 per plate.
Proceeds from the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party support the Madison Square Park Conservancy, the organization responsible for the beauty, ongoing maintenance, and programming of this historic park.

Brian KennedyI arrived at the designated meet-up location in front of the Shake Shack at 1 pm, but didn't see Monique. There were so many people in front of the Shack- I asked a couple of small groups if they were with the Ex-Southerners and they all said no.
I had Monique's phone number but didn't even try to call her as I couldn't have heard anything on my phone because of the loud music from the live band playing right next to the Shack. So, I just walked around a bit, and walked down Madison Ave from 14th to 17 th to see about getting some BBQ and the lines for each BBQ stand were each about half a block long---seems like all of New York was there to eat some BBQ. I decided I wasn't going to stand in line for an hour to get something to eat, so I just came on home.
The event was way too crowded and the lines were incredibly long. So, I don't think I will be going to it next year.
