I am pleased to let all of you know that we have managed to secure a meeting place for the New York Writers Workshop. Many thanks to Dave Spira, who managed to track down what appears to be an excellent location for our weekly get togethers.
Our first meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 27, starting at 7 PM in Room 214 of the Central Library. A floor plan link is available at http://www.brooklynpubliclibrary.org/sites/default/files/files/pdf/central/floorplan.pdf.
More information about the Brooklyn Central Library, including available public transportation options, can be found at http://www.brooklynpubliclibrary.org/locations/central.
Hope to see all of you there.

I heartily agree that a separate room in Brooklyn's Central Library is a truly fabulous feat in location finding! As a published author who's both taught writing and been senior editor for a literary agency for over a decade, I'm a veteran of many such groups. Most perched in noisy/expensive bar/restaurants and the like are not long for this world. (Somethin' about shouting to be heard discussing the nuances of a sex scene while a waiter pressures everyone to buy another round just doesn't cut the proverbial mustard.) IMHO any writer serious about getting her/his work workshopped should take advantage of this rare opportunity.

Yes, well said, I have attended a writers meeting in this very same room that we will be using for Danny's writers group. Once the door is shut, it's just us writers going through our paces. (PS bring your own coffee or tea the library cafe closes at 6pm)
Somehow, being able to have a subway (no.#2 or #3 train) two short blocks away and bus that stops in front of our new location, should not stop any writers from attending. We now have extended the time of the workshop and have a much better room layout. Plus, now we are able to book the room for four consecutive sessions at a time. Give it a try!

Perhaps now I can finish my story that I began writing back in September "You Need To Get A Life". Sometimes I even amaze myself.

Join us for a weekly get together of sometimes frank and hopefully always constructive criticism of your literary work. There is no restriction on the type of genre and only a few rules:
1. Bring up to 6 double spaced typed pages of your work for reading. Additional copies would be helpful in order to allow others in the group to follow along.
2. The author is not allowed to speak while feedback is being provided.
3. The same piece should not be reread at a future workshop.
We will meet every Tuesday at 7 PM on the first floor of the Central Library, unless a meetup is not scheduled for that date due to a holiday or other event. A floor plan link is available at http://www.brooklynpubliclibrary.org/sites/default/files/files/pdf/central/floorplan.pdf.
