Brewery Artwalk

Another art event! Last year, I attended the Brewery Art Walk. This is a free two day art event (free parking too). It will be on Saturday, April 26th, and Sunday, April 27th, from 11AM to 6PM. We can go either day (I chose Saturday but we can go on Sunday as well). We can walk around together or you are welcome to go on our own.

More than 100 artists' studios will be open for viewing. Open studios are spread across the Brewery's 16 acre campus including a few multi-story buildings.

The Brewery Art Walk is a twice annual open studio weekend at the world's largest art complex. With over 100 participating resident artists, we will have the opportunity to see new works, discover new favorites, speak with the artists and purchase artwork directly from the artists' studios.

The creation of the Brewery Arts Complex began in 1982 at the site of the Pabst Blue Ribbon Brewery. With the passing of the Artist-In-Residence code, artists could rent live/work space in industrially zoned buildings. The Brewery Art Association rents only to artists.

There are a few entrances. There is free parking on the
street and in the UPS lot next door. Important: The UPS lot closes at 6:30pm.

Let's meet around 10:45am-11am next to the UPS parking lot entrance at the end of Moulton Ave. There is another meetup group that will meet there as well (US Hiking) so hopefully you will see a crowd of people and will find us easily. I did this walk last year and parking/meeting spot was somewhat confusing. I will probably bring a balloon so that you can find me easily :)

I just saw this so I'm not going today, but I would want to go on Sunday -- anyone else?

If you missed the Art Walk on Saturday (or loved it so much you want to go again) at least a couple of us will be meeting on Sunday at 1:30 pm to walk the art. If you want to join us meet us at the steps leading up to Barbara's (the Brewery's bar/restaurant). If you will be going, please post something to let us know. I will be wearing a black cap.

Hi Walt, we are leaving after the Winery. There are probably some from our group still walking around but no easy way to find them at this point unless someone posts their location.

Hi everyone, there are four people so far from the posts below that are interested in going on Sunday. Maybe you can coordinate a time to meet and walk around together? Ronan, Dayna, Emily and Erica..

Hi all - As someone who's been to 5 or 6 of these, I can offer a few suggestions to those who haven't:

    1) Wear comfy shoes. You'll be standing, walking, and stair-climbing all day, most of it on concrete.
    2) Dress light. There are a lot of warm bodies (and stairs) and very little A/C.
    3) Consider bringing a small tote bag (or bigger purse?) There's lots of artist's promotional stuff to pick up, plus any small purchases, and you'll want hands free to eat, drink, and shmooze. Toss a water bottle in the bag; you'll get too sweaty for Two-Buck Chuck alone.
    4) Don't be afraid to talk to artists about their work. In my experience, they're more flattered by genuine interest and curiosity than by an extensive art-world vocabulary.

I'd also add "get there early" but as we're meeting at 11 I don't think that will be a problem. See you there!

May I recommend you drop into Hipcooks- it's a cooking school that always has some tasty treats for Art Walkers. It's right in the middle of the Brewery in one of the row (long) buildings.

What do I do if I can't get there till 130-2? Still want to meet my fellow ny'ers

    April 13, 2014

    • Kristina O.

Hi Walt, we should still be there. The art walk gets pretty crowded so I am not sure if we will all end up staying together as one large group once we begin touring the studios. Please post when you arrive and we will try and meet up.

Hi! I'm actually one of the artists who will be opening for the tour! I'm sorry, I haven't been to any of the meetups <yet>. If you do the tour, feel free to come by my studio & say hi! Maps are provided, but I am in the 642 building, #E-28. Would be nice to meet some fellow east-coasters! :')
