Hammer Museum + Happy Hour at Yamato in Westwood/UCLA

Thanks to John for this event suggestion:

Thursday Nights are free at the Museum and Yamato offers a good hour price menu from 5 - 6. Museum closes at 8. I propose Happy Hour from 5 - 615 then head over to the Museum until closing time. The Hammer Museum is a unique, cutting-edge arts institution that connects the classics and the contemporary through its varied collections, wide-ranging exhibitions, and provocative programs. The Museum is positioned—both physically and metaphorically—at the gateway between the city of Los Angeles and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The Museum is the entry through which the general public can gain access to the diverse riches of the University community. Meanwhile, through the programs and exhibitions of the Museum, UCLA students gain first-hand exposure to the larger world of creative human endeavors. UCLA’s mandate of pursuing cutting-edge research within the sciences and the humanities is reflected in the Hammer Museum’s renowned exhibitions and programs. We approach the arts with the same quest for knowledge, discovery, and understanding that guides the scientist, engineer, or anthropologist.

    Hello, Everyone
Kristina ask that I arrive between 445PM-500PM because she may be stuck in traffic in SIMI Valley/SFV thus arriving at 515pmish. I will be wearing gray pants, a light black charcoal long sleeve shirt and I will be wearing a black fedora. This is my first time to the place. I will try my best to save as many seats as possible if I can by ordering food dishes and drinks. My number is[masked]-2990. I have no advice on parking. However, please keep in mind this is the UCLA area so I suggest everyone do some parking reconnaissance via web or arriving early. There is meter parking, parking lots and garages. The charges are not all the same.

    Happy Thursday!

    February 13, 2014

    • John

i'm a UCLA grad. metered parking will be hit or miss especially since this is the school year. your best bet is to find a garage if you want to save the brain damage of finding a meter.

you can walk all of westwood village in 15 minutes max, from one corner to the other. the map that was linked above is a good resource.

i wouldn't worry about finding parking right next to the restaurant. a few blocks is really no big deal. plus, weren't most of us from NY, anyway? a little walking never killed us. :)

There's actually a Westwood Village Parking Garage on the same block. If you get there before 5, you get two hours free. Check it out here: https://plus.google.co...

Hi Kristina, I probably won't make it to the happy hour, so wondering if there is a spot everyone will meet at, over at the museum........say, front entrance at 6:30??, or just try to find everyone when I get there? With traffic, I hope to be at the museum around 6:15/6:30.

    February 13, 2014

    • Kristina O.

Hi Matthew, I have never been to the museum before but we will probably head over around 6:15ish so just post when you arrive and we will let you know where we are. See you later!

    Are kids allowed?

    February 12, 2014

    • Kristina O.

I'm not sure but the museum would probably allow kids as I would the restaurant I would imagine. You can call to check.

      February 12, 2014

  • Maria

My schedule is open tomorrow night and I can go! Look forward to FINALLY meeting fellow NYers. Have never been to the Hammer museum - a first! See you then! :)

Hi John, thanks for the date suggestion. This event was John's idea and I am fine with having the event for our group but I will probably not be in LA on the 20th. We can meet this Thursday or next Thursday (day before Valentine's) or we can wait till March.
