Hike up to the old Lutz mine at Frogponds above Copper Creek.

This approach to the old O'Brien mine is obstructed by some rickety old timbers that could easily lead to a broken ankle; but to make matters worse, it is guarded by a rare, elusive, and appallingly savage grouse.

Me and John never found that mine. Where was that at in relation to where we dropped our packs?

A few hundred feet north across the trail and downhill on another old doubletrack. I guess that whole area of pits from there to the cabin ruins is O'Brien. There's another pit uphill from it about 80 feet from the trail. If I'd been looking right instead of left when we first got there, I might have seen it through the trees.
