Let's take a public transportation tour and go for an eco-friendly hike in Marin.
Details: 40 minute bus ride, 5.26 mile hike, 800 foot total elevation gain for both locations.
Meeting Place and Transportation: 76X Bus departure at 10:30 AM sharp from Sutter St. near the corner of Sansome St. Bus fare is 2.00 each way. Bring exact change.
The 76X Marin Headlands Express leaves from Sansome and Sutter at 10:30 AM and travels through the city and over the Golden Gate Bridge for some spectacular views, a "poor man's version of a tour bus!" It's about a 30 min. ride to our starting point in Marin Headlands.
The nearest BART stop is Montgomery St. BART Station. It's a 1 block walk to the bus stop.
You could drive to the location but parking is very difficult along Conzelman Rd. with few parking lots. The bus stops right at the starting point of our hike. Drivers can meet us at the bus stop intersection of Conzelman Rd. and Kirby Cove Rd. at @ 11:10 AM. Map of that intersection: http://goo.gl/maps/FnTm6
I'll wear a pink cap.
Our hike will begin with a descent to Kirby Cove beach which on a clear day has spectacular city views. We'll have a picnic lunch and then ascend to the start point and (optional) continue uphill to Slackers Hill for more exercise and views with a snack break. Then we'll head back to the starting point for a bus ride back. The bus runs every hour.
Another Meetup Group will be joining us.
Bay Area summers can be foggy, so bring layers and lets hope for a clear day. If there is fog, it will still be good exercise and feel very "atmospheric" as I like to say.
Bring good hiking shoes for dirt, gravel and paved roads, sunscreen, hat, plenty of water or other libations, cups, a bag lunch, snacks to share if you wish and anything else to make the outing comfortable for you.
Pit toilet facilities are available at Kirby Cove, and I would advise women to bring along some tissues just to be prepared.
Please note that a short part of this hike will be along Conzelman Road to get to the Coastal Trail, so we will have to keep far right for a bit.
