Meet:  In front of the GAP store, 890 Market St. Flood Building

BART stop:  Powell St.

The Barbary Coast Trail is a walking tour connecting 20 historic sites and local history museums. Approximately 180 bronze medallions and arrows embedded in the sidewalk mark the 3.8-mile trail.

Our first stop will be The Old Mint on a path that will take us through Hallidie Plaza, Union Square, Chinatown, North Beach, Telegraph Hill (last day Coit Tower is open prior to renovation), Fisherman's Wharf, Aquatic Park, Ghirardelli Square, and optionally, Nob Hill via cable car as we return to the starting point. We will stop for lunch in Chinatown and get refreshments along the way. We should finish up by 5:00 depending on the group's pace.

Those are amazing photos with interesting captions! I hope this will be repeated, Andrew, after a good long rest from what appears to be a packed day! So many firsts!!

I loved it. It always pleases me to learn of areas of S.F. that I've never seen, after almost 40 years living in the Bay Area. And Andrew was a great organizer.

Thanks Andrew for taking us to many places we usually don't pay attention.

Great to meet everyone and thank you Andrew for doing such a great job planning and leading. Fun, informative, and inclusive of a diverse group. Seems like the perfect combination. And how you got Emperor Norton to show up twice? Stroke of genius!

Awesome walk & narrative. Andrew led me to places in SF I was not aware of, or at least, had not really appreciated.

Yes, I'll point out major landmarks along the way. I recommend that anyone interested in the historical details pick up the Barbary Coast Trail Pocket Guide found on the website - I am reading it now and it's excellent. http://www.barbarycoa...

is there a fee associated with the hike or tour?

    November 12, 2013

    • Andrew M.

No fee, but bring money for anything you wish to pick up along the way. Cable Car is $6 if we choose to return that way.
