The parade was great. It was our first Halloween parade but our 2 yr old daughter really enjoyed herself plus the people around us were giving us 'their' treats. My hubby, Alex Cullier got some great shots too!

I drove around for 1/2 hour searching for a parking spot. Went to a paid lot by Jax Brewery where there were no more spots left. When the parade started we all were unable to leave the lot. Our cars were left illegally in the lot. I took my tripod and was worried someone might knock over my camera due to the crowds. Because I bought my camera the day before I didn't know what I was doing which was frustrating as it is my 1st time using my DSLR but did manage to get a few good shots. Then I went to Mona's which I thought the photo club had agreed to meet at after the parade but didn't see anyone. Did anyone go to Mona's?

Sorry you had a hard time. We were at Mona's after the parade. Glad to hear you were able to get a few shots. cheers

    Where are you guys

There is usually safe paid parking by Jax Brewery which is an easy hike to where the parade starts. Any tips about shooting at night or capturing a rolling float? For the moving floats should we do continuous shooting like for sports? Today I just bought my 1st DSL!!!!!

Exposure will be the tricky part... it will be somewhat dark. If you can shoot under a street light, that will give you some extra light. Having a "fast" lens (f2.8, 1,4, etc.) helps, too. Up your ISO as high as you can without noise (usually 800 is good for most DSLRs). All else fails, use a flash, but not the on-board one if have one to mount.... Enjoy!

For some of the best shots, you may want to consider getting there way earlier. Parking will be horrendous actually...Maybe consider Trolley's and such?

We will be riding the floats from Mardi Gras World to meet at Elysian Fields and Esplanade/St. Peter and congregate in the neutral ground for pictures and socializing at 3:30 pm

The floats will leave at approx. 6:15 pm or sunset..whichever comes first.

If anyone needs more information...let me know! I'll be riding, and thus not meeting everyone unless it's on the Neutral Ground. :) I'll look for ya'll...I'll have my camera and am hoping to get some killer shots from ON TOP of a float for a change. There is a great after party at Mardi Gras World and entry is only 25.00 dollars, live music, cash bar, food... Costumes encouraged!

Hi, I am Beverly on Cathy's site and since my cohort in crime (Cathy) is busy on the 26th, it would just be me attending. Is anyone going to the BOO from the Slidell area that I meet up with?

It is. We are going with my friend Erica who has a 5 year old. I do hear it is a good photo-op for kids costumes. Will see. Will text you as soon as we escape from the zoo!

Parking can always be tricky. I suggest that you get there early and try to park somewhere by Elysian Fields and St. Claude. This is only a few blocks away. cheers

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
