City Park Sculpture Garden

UPDATE: I was unable to find sculptures in the north end, but the Sculpture Garden will be good.

Let's meet at the Morning Call coffee stand before the shoot (and maybe after).

As suggested by Ed Blum:
if ruined or removed, shooting trees, nature or outdoor portraits preferably on a gray day for black & white and on a Sat or Sun afternoon.

oh and while i'm here what is the rule on clone stamping folks out of the background. they just distract. yeah yeah compose better :)

darkroom tricks? i have no idea what you are talking about. and the dodge and burn tool icons in PS were chosen randomly. another site i submit photos to allows minimal PSing and it has to be to the entire image i.e. contrast/ brightness, crop, etc. what ever works here is fine with me. just want to know what is and isn't allowed.

Really? Are you serious? The image I posted last night (the alien looking image) has a TON of photoshop editing going on. In fact, I think I used three or four different image editing programs to get that look. I was just playing around, but I think that the finished image - no matter how you got there - is really all that matters. I'll clone out distractions and make whatever changes are 'needed' to present the image in the way that I want it to look. I make no apologies. :)

I looked at the images posted!! I am blown away by some of your artistic perspectives! I feel as this was the biggest lesson of all for me! :)

It is amazing how everyone sees things differently. It was the same subject, yet we got so many different perspectives and point of views. A great learning experience indeed.

put three photos up but in looking at others work i'm not seeing any comments. are our photos to stand on their own? what if i want to justify my not so good composition? what if i want to go on and on about how much i like your photo?

    February 17, 2014

    • Bill W.

      Sure! No problem. :-)

As Bill said, comments are varied. With 127+ photos uploaded, it would be easy to get lost in the mix. Also, I have seen a tendency that if you comment on someone's photo, they may be more likely to comment on yours... but not always... Since you mentioned it here, I would be happy to check out your shots... Hope to see you at another event! Cheers

what are the size limits to uploaded photos? both in pixels and kb? from looking at a few of today's it seems 600 wide and proportional. kb looks to vary but it would depending on complexity.

    February 16, 2014

    • Conrad L.

      Don't think there's a limit... I usually upload 3000x2000.

Are you at Morning Call? We should be there in about 10 minutes.

I just wanted to say, that the last time I went to the sculpture garden, they would not allow me to use my tripod. Someone who works on the grounds came over and told me it was forbidden. Just letting everyone know. Unless the event organizers have arranged something with the park authorities, you wont need your tripod. :)

    • Bryan

      Nope... Sculpture Garden is free

      February 16, 2014

    • Katrina P.

Ok. Thanks. We may be a tad late. Have to stop at Office Max to return something first. If we don't catch you at Morning Call, where exactly is the sculpture garden?

I had a previously scheduled appointment today for 3:30, to bring a rooster for a visit with his family, but they called and had to cancel so I'm able to attend today!

I won't be able to make it today . Seems like a bad weekend for me trying to get to meet-ups. Family things to attend to. Have fun and look forward to the photos!

Something came up and I can't attend.

I will walking in the Little Rascals parade today... planning to show up if time permits.

I'm a bit confused, sorry. Between the UPDATE and the post by Ed Blum, what are we shooting?? And how?

    February 12, 2014

    • Bryan

We will shoot the Sculpture Garden (behind the museum and by Morning Call), as the other sculptures Ed suggested are no longer there... (that I could find) We can shoot with a tripod or hand-held. Hope this helps.

      February 13, 2014

I'm looking forward to this meet up. I've shot with clients in the garden (before they required a permit nearly everywhere in the park ). This will be a chance to shoot the sculptures themselves and the surrounds. The weather should be great. For me , I'm planning to do some HDR images (using a tripod). Should be fun.

I would go but will be out of town. Have fun
