Inspired by tonight's moon, I wanted to see if anyone was interested in doing a Full Moon Photography meetup somewhere in the area. I am game for the Northshore or NOLA. Open to suggestions on location. I think the next best opportunity (obviously weather dependent), is March 15th. Since getting higher (one thing recommended for moon photos) isn't really an option here, maybe something cool within the shot such as the city scene, trees, etc would be cool to have as a background. I think doing some HDR shots also might be fun to try. Meeting ahead of time to get the cameras set up, scout out a possibly good point to shoot from, and setting up the tripods is probably a good idea as well. Sunset time for MArch 15th is 709pm, so maybe meeting around 5:30pm somewhere to get organized, set up, and have a chance to do sunset shots and moon shots is an option too. Obviously, this meetup will be entirely weather dependent and may be cancelled due to conditions outside. I have included a few links of articles about shooting the moon and what may be needed. I advocate a larger telephoto lens than 200mm, so renting a lens for this may be in order if you do not have one.
Will at a minimum need a tripod, knowledge on how to work your timer on your camera (or a cable release or wireless trigger), telephoto zoom lens, and willingness to take a lot of trial and error photos! Those who may be able to work Photoshop could do some processing of the photos with HDR (or another software of choice). If someone knows how to do this, maybe a small presentation to share the information would be helpful too!
