Heidi,

You should be able to see them with the naked eye, if the humidity and clouds don't get in the way.

Here's a report on the night time sky, and the best time to see stars. Let's hope Sunday early AM (before 6am) is as clear as it's predicting!

This is the Orionid Meteor Shower, which means it will be displaying around the constellation Orion. I see it often in my backyard of Mid City, looking towards the FQ. If you have an Android, there's an app called "Google Sky", and similar for the iPhone, that show you where the constellations are.

For the Perseids, I went to St. Bernard Parish, on the road that terminates at the end of the delta. Pretty good area, no traffic, but the humidity made transparency to the stars pretty tough.

When are the meteor showers? Please include the date and time. How did you learn they were coming? I've always wanted to see them but never have. Do you have a telescope? I want to buy a telescope for beginners but there are so many on the internet I don't have a clue what type to buy. Would a camera be able to take pictures of something that far away?

Thanks,
Heidi
