bracketting exposures will help. I do lightning photography and the technique is similar.

For this photo or timelapse? Do you mean white balance bracketting or exposure value bracketting? :-) Would love to try lightning photo one day.

Conrad, by bracketting I was referring to the length of the exposure bracketting. Like if you used 10 seconds, do one at twenty seconds and one at five seconds. Sometimes, that will improve things. For lightning, I find a dark spot and a "busy" sky ... lots of lightning works best. Set the camera on a tripod, and use a cable release. With ASA 200 (either film or digital), I play around with the length of the exposure, but somewhere between 20 seconds and 30 seconds seems to work well. If the image is too bright, I stop down the lens (f stops) but don't shorten the exposure. A shorter exposure makes it harder to capture lightning, which is not very predictable.

Ok. I see. You meant the exposure value bracketing. I use the bracketing function in my camera only if I plan to process the pictures as HDR images. The image here is just one image. In LR5, you can get some HDR look by just increasing the vibrance.

I'm going to have to look up "HDR" ... I shoot like an "old school" film photographer, even with a digital camera. And there were not that many settings on there other than exposure and f stops. Might learn something digging into that ... but I'll probably still prefer the method I use. I've noticed some of the digital cameras have ways of adjusting brilliance, etc. but I have never played with it. It was definitely exposures and f stops I was talking about. Try it sometime though ... you might like the result. And I'll look into HDR as I don't know much about that.
