Laid-back Sunday skate at Chelsea Piers when they first open. I should have a balloon and/or a sign to help you identify the group, but my cell phone will definitely be on the whole time so please call me if you dont see us.

Part of the fun of ice skating is seeing the 9-year-old girls on the ice in their little cute outfits who can skate circles around me - literally. Haven't tried the new Queen's World Ice Arena yet, but Chelsea Piers is an old standby and this will actually be the first time we are hitting the ice here (Chelsea Piers) this year. Should be lots of fun! :)

$10 admission includes skate rental

Session runs 1pm-3:50pm

Bring a windbreaker or sweater. It can get chilly on the ice.

Bring a lock or use coin operated lockers by the rink
(I recommend bringing a lock, when I went I was told I had to use the 75cent coin lockers near the south rink, but when I went into the bathroom/lockerroom there were empty lockers so i just used one of those.)

GETTING THERE:
There is a #23 bus that runs directly to pier 61 where the Sky Rink is located. You can also drive there, if you plan to do this, call ahead because it looked like there were plenty of parking spots but I dont know if they are reserved.

WHERE:
Enter pier 61, walk ALL the way to the back where you see the sign that says "ATM" that is the entrance to the rink area. Go upstairs and you will be in a seating area, there is a skate shop here and the lockerrooms are here as well. There are 2 rinks at SKy Rink. The rink towards the left near the skate shop is NOT your rink, that is the hockey rink. Walk towards the doors on the far right to the public rink.

Meet inside at tables by the skate store/concession stand

    • “ My phone stopped working shortly after we hit the ice, and I only noticed because I had been taking pictures illegally with it. I'm sorry if my defunct phone prevented anyone from finding the group, but since I still have a few friends that refuse to get cell phones and I could concievably have the same problem with my phone again, I am going to make a permanent sign for the group before our next official meetup. I will still have my phone with me also, because once we hit the ice as a group, it is nearly impossible to tell who is in the group (and I'm not willing to tie a sign to my back like a total dork). Only if you can find me on the ice can I then introduce you to the others. There were 10 people who did find the group before we got on the ice (9 others besides myself), so including the two people who wrote comments here, 12 people showed up total. If you are a 13th person who came and couldn't find the group, please email me to let me know so I can apologize to you personally. ”

      “ I got there somewhat late (but before 1:30) and saw no sign of the Meetup group. (When I went to other sessions at Bryant Park, a sign remained even when everyone was on the ice.) Inasmuch as I had to work night arraignments starting at 5:00 in Brooklyn that night (I'm a Legal Aid lawyer), I never would have chosen to go then if it wasn't for the scheduled Meetup ”
