Each and every Sunday all season long we have a social ice dance session at the World Ice Arena in Queens, NYC. The session attracts a wide range of people who are already comfortable on the ice. This last Sunday we had one first time ice dancer and another skater who had ice danced in the Olympics three times! How's that for a wide range of skill levels? All ice dancers and want to be ice dancers are welcome and coaching is avalible with advance notice. The session happens every week with no Sundays missed for holidays. It always runs from 5-6:20 pm and costs $20.00.

The ice rink at Bear Mountain State Park is an outdoor rink in a very beautiful location. It's about an hours drive up the Hudson Valley and the leaves should still be close to full color that week so, if we hit good weather, we should see some great Fall foliage while we are skating away the day. The sessions time that day are 10 pm, 12 pm, 2 pm, and 4 pm. The admission fee is $4.00 per session and the skate rental fee is also $4.00. There also is a $7.00 per car parking fee there. A bus that costs $26.50 round trip from the PA Bus Terminal is available if anyone is interested in the details.

We're on a roll with our Saturday Night Fever skating sessions so we're going to keep the ball rolling and do it again this coming Saturday night. It's Halloween night so some folks might come in a costume but don't feel like you have to.

The second of many Saturday night Meetups this season at the City Ice Pavillion in Queens, NYC. All skill levels welcome. The session is one of their regular general public session will run from 7-9:50pm and cost $4.00 admission (which is half price from the regular admission fee) and $6.00 additional if you need to rent ice skates. Directions at <cityicepavilion. com> The rink has been tricky to find in the past but they tell me that some new signs should make it easier than it has been. The rink is two blocks South from the 33rd and Rawson stop on the #7 subway in the same building that the Sleepy's mattress store is in but you enter the rink on the other side of the block (ie. one block East from Van Dam St.)

September/October is an awkward time because Chelsea Piers is done with their summer promotion, and I don't want to pay $20 to ice skate in NYC. But with the outdoor rinks being closed until early November at the earliest, the the boycotters can mix things up and hopefully have a joint event with Yvonne's roller skating/ rollerblading group instead. I've spoken with her and the plan is to meet up in Central Park, probably by the bandshell where you always see all the other rollerbladers. I am not a rollerblader and although (in theory) this should be an easy transition from ice skating, I still am ready to fall on my ass and/or die laughing of my clumsiness. But should be fun! More details coming soon...

Laid-back Sunday skate at Chelsea Piers when they first open. Please call my cell (908 917 6495) or Peter's cell (917 626 5583) to locate our little group, because groups of friends can look deceptively like our meetup, and you don't want to ask five tables if they are with the ice skating club before you find us. But part of the fun of ice skating is seeing the 9-year-old girls on the ice in their little cute outfits who can skate circles around some of us - literally. Haven't tried the new Queen's World Ice Arena yet, but Chelsea Piers is an old standby and we have been having a blast hitting the ice here (Chelsea Piers) this summer. Last skate of the season! So last chance to come out and take a break from the heat with us! DETAILS: ALL AGES and ALL ABILITY LEVELS are Welcome to Join Us! $10 admission includes FREE skate rental (if you need it) Session runs 12:00pm-3:50pm Bring a windbreaker or sweater. It can get chilly on the ice. Bring a lock or use coin operated lockers by the rink (I recommend bringing a lock, when I went I was told I had to use the 75cent coin lockers near the south rink, but when I went into the bathroom/lockerroom there were empty lockers so i just used one of those.) GETTING THERE: There is a #23 bus that runs directly to pier 61 where the Sky Rink is located. You can also drive there, if you plan to do this, call ahead because it looked like there were plenty of parking spots but I dont know if they are reserved. WHERE: Enter pier 61, walk ALL the way to the back where you see the sign that says "ATM" that is the entrance to the rink area. Go upstairs and you will be in a seating area, there is a skate shop here and the lockerrooms are here as well. There are 2 rinks at SKy Rink. The rink towards the left near the skate shop is NOT your rink, that is the hockey rink. Walk towards the doors on the far right to the public rink. MEETING POINT: Meet inside at tables by the skate store/concession stand ~Should be lots of fun!~
