NIELSEN Flute Concerto
NIELSEN Violin Concerto
TCHAIKOVSKY Symphony No. 2, Little Russian

Alan Gilbert, conductor
Robert Langevin, flute
Nikolaj Znaider, violin

Join us on Friday, October 12th when Alan Gilbert leads the Philharmonic in a program featuring the music of Nielsen and Tchaikovsky.  Orchestra tickets only $30 for NY Philharmonic MeetUp Members!

Leonard Bernstein was a passionate fan of the Danish composer Carl Nielsen (1865–1931). Nielsen wrote in the style of Brahms, Schumann and Sibelius, and to Bernstein, Nielsen's symphonies were exciting and significant works.

Now Alan Gilbert is picking up the mantle and leading a drive to re-introduce audiences to this rich, lush music, both in concert and in a series of live recordings. These concerts (Oct 10-13) are the second installment in our cycle of Nielsen's complete symphonic works.

Alan Gilbert believes that every music lover needs to know Carl Nielsen. That is why he has spearheaded The Nielsen Project, a multi-season survey of the six symphonies and three concertos by Denmark’s beloved composer through performances by the New York Philharmonic, recorded on Denmark’s Dacapo label.

Nielsen's delightful flute and violin concertos will be heard on the Philharmonic stage for the first time since 1967. Tchaikovsky's smile-inducing Little Russian symphony concludes the evening.

To anyone interested in something fresh and new that they haven't heard before (but are really going to like), this concert is for you.

SPECIAL BONUS EVENT: Alan Gilbert will be signing CDs of the first Nielsen release after the concert on October 12.

Loved the Tchaikovsky Symphony, not a big fan of the Nielsen pieces at all (may have to avoid those concerts). The appetizers I ordered at PJ Clarke's was good but not a big fan of this restaurant. Other suggestions would be Rosa Mexicano

This was an excellent concert. It was a joy to hear Nielsen's concertos, and I would love to hear the Philharmonic play his Symphony #4,

I have a ticket that I can't use tonight if anyone is interested. Let me know, I hate to see it go to waste.
