9/13 vs. Boston

Hi All,

Sorry that it took time but now the location is added!

While waiting for the Yankees to get back on track after All Star Game, more than a month has passed by and realized that we can't wait too long for another get together!

The venue TBD but would like to know who wants to get together to watch vs. Red Sox?

June

p.s. To those of you with Jewish faith, I am sorry that it coincided with Yom Kippur. We didn't realize it till we planned it. Having said that, as far as the baseball is concerned, it's the best date, as it's Friday, Yankees are away, it's against BOSTON!, we don't have much time left till the end of the season.

Also, to add to the note, as someone compared it to Christmas, had baseball been a winter sports like football, I may have done it on Christmas (as football is always played on Thanksgiving and sometimes on Christmas Day, and Christmas is not everyone's faith).

Anyway, sorry but I can't accommodate every religion. I hope any of you who can make it can show up.

I am confused, is this a religious group or a Yankees group? I am sure June meant no disrespect to our Jewish Yankee fans. Meetups are schedule at the convenience of the organizer not its members. Like others stated, if it was scheduled on Xmas an sure some members will not be able to attend, for whether personal or religious conflicts. So please do not take it to such an extreme. Lets Go YANKEES!!!

I'm not sure who you're arguing with -- I never said to change it. I just pointed out the people said MLB doesn't move games (they do) and that the NFL always plays on Christmas (they don't). I said not one word about moving a meetup. I'll see people soon. Believe me, I'd rather be at a bar even watching them lose then at work so late

Exactly, I couldn't believe some would be offended and want June to change it

The arms are getting shaky after the strain of so many 1 and 2 run games (highest % of these won in the majors)! Also the fact that the NYY tend to be an older team works against them over the 163 games.

Having a meetup on a Jewish holiday is like having a meet up on Christmas. Doubt you would be attending. Ilene, Dave, Abby and Cass among others won't attend. Disappointing.

Childish! It's a meet up. Everyone does not have to make every meet up. Have one on every holiday.

June, I have plans right after work, but I'm going to try to stop by before the end of the game. Go Yankees!

I agree with Peggy's comment below. If you don't know it's a Jewish holiday (honestly I didn't know) it's not about showing respect. I thought it will be good to have a meetup on Friday night because I don't need to think about going to work next day. So I'm sure June just didn't notice like many other people and didn't mean to be disrespectful.

So they should not be playing baseball at all then? Stop it with this respect VS disrespect business.

well...what do you want? when there's about 700 people saying the same thing about the holiday, you'd have to at least wonder if someone did feel offended, even if that wasnt June's intention.

Sorry, my schedule changed and I can't make it. Have fun to those attending, healthy/safe fast to those observing. Happy Friday to the rest of us

Yes like many the others it is Yom Kippur - as others stated the holiest of the Jewish holidays...I know we are minority so many don't keep track...let's hope they win!

Actually I may attend. I'm not overly religious, but I understand those who won't be going. It's a personal choice for me.

should read ...not able to attend due to going to the home game.

To be quite honest I had no idea it was a Jewish holiday and I thought the 13th was a great date since they are playing an away game in Boston as opposed to a home game where many may not be able to attend the game. I tell the holidays by my bosses who are Jewish. I knew they were out two days the past week and since they are going to be in Asia for a show next week I definitely would have no clue there was another holiday. Christmas is easy to remember ..it's one day...not a few days of holiday as it is with the Jewish calendar in September. As I am not of the Jewish faith I don't keep track of these holidays. I'm sure June did not realize it either when she posted the event so I don't feel she or anyone is showing a lack of respect. Friday nights always seem best as there is no work the next day for the majority. Now that I am aware of the holiday I do wish all a blessed one.

I am sorry that I haven't been attending many meet ups, but I was away this summer every weekend down the shore. I cannot attend this one either as it is a holiday for me. Everyone enjoy and I hope to see you at the next one.

June, this is on the evening of Yom Kippur...kind of like scheduling a Meetup on Christmas! So, no, I can't make it this time around, but I look forward to seeing everyone at future (more convenient!) Meetups.
