Android 101

Wanted to get this group going. Have arranged for someone who is a trainer in Android programming to give an intro talk.

We will talk about fundamentals, setting up the environments, and if time permits demonstrate a Hello World app.

Limited space for only 8 people. Will try to arrange a place with a larger capacity next time. If you have recommendations for space do let me know.

Also if you are trainer or an mobile programming expert and would be interested in sharing your wisdom do reach out to me.

    Hi, Welcome everyone !

As I try to get the ball rolling, can everyone who is attending this event (or plan to attend later) comment with how much they are aware of mobile programming.

Knowing Java helps learning Android, but we are not going to hold that against you !

Please drop a couple of lines of comments about what your expertise level is so that I can tailor events accordingly.

    For eg : "Hi, I am XYZ. I have no clue/some clue/java knowledge/some Android/iOS expertise/excellent knowledge etc"

I'm a complete noob. Backround is in OS and hardware support, with no programing backround. Very interested in learning and contributing as well.

I am also a newbie, though I've completed some basic iOS, Javascript, and Ruby tutorials.

I wanted to find out if there is anything I should install on my PC before the meetup? Looking to save time and be as prepared as possible...

Maybe two tracks could be followed?
One strictly using android library only and
One using libgdx library for support to multiple platforms( iOS, desktop, and android).

I do plan to conduct a longer weekend workshop later soon. If any one has access or recommendations to a training room class room style facilities please let me know

To have things ready for the class tomorrow, it would be nice if those who will be there download the Android/Bundle SDK and also make sure they have the JDK of JAVA loaded on their machines.

    Here are the links
    http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html

    You will need the jdk

You do not need to install, just have it downloaded.

Try to keep your laptop charged, I am not sure I can offer you power outlets at the location.

You can always come hands free and listen in.

I know how to spell Java, but that's about it. Consider me a true newbie. I've resisted the siren of mobile for some time, but its time to embrace it...

Is this meetup strictly android, or will ios be covered also? Does anyone know of an IOS 101 or Windows 8 101 group?

    January 17, 2014

    • Moresh J K.

This particular event is only for Android, I do plan to setup a IOS 101 later (and perhaps Windows 8 specific event later). Remember its just a start !
