Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is the story of a Southern family in crisis.
Husband and wife Brick and Maggie host an evening gathering at the family estate in Mississippi. The party is to celebrate the birthday of patriarch Big Daddy Pollitt, "the Delta's biggest cotton-planter", and his return from the Ochsner Clinic with what he has been told is a clean bill of health. All family members (except Big Daddy and Big Mamma) are aware of Big Daddy's true diagnosis: he is dying of cancer.
The play explores the complex themes of greed, superficiality, mendacity, decay, sexual desire, repression, and death.
If you're pressed for time to read the play, then grab a copy of the movie.
We'll be doing a play reading of a few scenes so everyone will have a chance to play a character!
