Treasures of Newcastle at the Art Gallery

The exhibition Treasures of Newcastle from the Macquarie era features rarely seen artworks and maps telling the fascinating story of the development of the early colony to Newcastle. It also features the recently discovered Wallis album and the iconic Macquarie Collectors Chest which will return to Newcastle for the first time in 195 years to be displayed beside the Newcastle Chest – a contemporary response.

There is a Glee Cafe downstairs at the Art Gallery open until 3pm. Catchup at cafe for 2pm. We can have a coffee, I have a brochure about the Treasures including Macquarie's Chest and we can then troop upstairs and see the collection.

Location: The Art Gallery is next to the library, next to Civic Park. See the location here - http://www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au/nag/about/about_nag

Thank you Deb for organizing the visit to the Art Gallery. It was great to have a warming cuppa and then see the exhibition.

Thank you everybody who came! It was a fun afternoon with good company. Sorry I abandoned most of you for the free drawing class but Libby and I felt it was too good to pass up and for those with kids its on again next Friday and Saturday 3.00 to 4.30pm.

Hi Art Gallery, afternoon tea, Meetup peoples. Hope most of you will be there despite the rain. For the newbies I'm wearing a peach coloured long sleeved top, blue pants and boots. See you there!

I am a bit confused. Where are we actually meeting? has it changed from the Glee Cafe at the Art gallery?

    • Michael

The Cafe of course ;) Google just does not have a map location for the Cafe ;)

To Debbie and all apologize for my mistake
it wasn't my intention to change the meeting location
    I don't know how it's happen

Can't see this time how to set the limit. Michael can you fix. We'll keep it to the 16 if possible.

As far as I know the event should be set where anyone can edit the details. Not sure if that applies to the RSVP (Edit, then RSVP Settings near the bottom). I have set it to 16 even though 17 have RSVPd.

If I have not joined a meetup someone else is running, then I won't see any comments posted for my attention ;)

Richard, we shouldn't be hard to miss. We will be at most of the tables as the cafe is only small.

Who changed the location! It is still at the Art Gallery. I have actually reserved for tables at the cafe for 2pm. Please tell me why you have done this Miguel!!!

Nope Google thinks it is at the Crown Plaza. I have moved the marker but Google needs to approve.

I updated the event info and included a link to the art gallery website which shows a location map for those who knows know where it is.

Why has the location been changed?

    April 17, 2013

  • Miguel removed the location. It was Newcastle Art Gallery Cafe

Hard to tell. The chest is behind glass but is interesting with all the drawers and then there are a lot of different paintings to look at. We are having coffee first and then going upstairs so you could always leave early after that.

I think a limit of ten would be best.
