31-41 Yr Old Only:Dinner @ Rustica Restaurant

Just for something a bit different and aged specific to have dinner with people within my own age group.

So if your're aged between 31 and 41 hope you can come along and enjoy an evening with like minded people as a few of us have already had the chance to meet but not really the chance to catch back up again.

Rustica Restaurant Newcastle Beach was launched in August of 2011; a collaboration between chef Mark Hosie and passionate hospitality man, Will Creedon.

Meaning ‘rural’ in Italian, Rustica was inspired by the social style of Mediterranean dining, the spice of North African cuisine and the emphasis on honest, superior-quality produce; a quality you’ll find at the heart of cooking in countries of the Med Basin.

Overlooking Newcastle Beach, Rustica offers stunning views from the outdoor plaza on King Street through to our remarkable coastline across Shortland Esplanade. Not to be outshone, however, is the Dion Ackland-designed interior which features authentic and hand-crafted pieces from both local artisans and obscure foreign locations.

Our philosophy on dining is that it’s an experience to be enjoyed and remembered. In the words of Mark and Will, ‘eat, drink and be merry!’

As we will be a group more than 10 the restaurant has advised that we select the banquet menu.

8 Dish Banquet $54 pp.
Course One
Duo of Rustica’s Mezze w/ ‘house-made’ flatbread
Local Pacific oysters w/ pomegranate relish
The ‘Butcher’s’ chorizo w/ pickled vegetables & croutes

Course Two
Moroccan spiced whitebait w/ hydari
Pork & pistachio cromesquis w/ spiced pear chutney
Pumpkin arancini w/ garlic mayonnaise

Course Three
Split & grilled Portuguese chicken w/peri peri & warm potato & pepper
salad
Beetroot risotto w/ button mushrooms, peas & Binnorie feta

Dinners seem to be a regular occurrence these days :) Many of the events are very popular and spaces are often limited (especially dinners), so if you see something that interests you, jump in quick smart.

It definitely seems there has been some healthy debate about this event and that's a good thing, there will certainly be plenty to talk about tonight :) I removed my comment because I felt too many people were taking it the wrong way. I think it's a bit much to call people haters etc, I certainly don't hate Helen, I have met her and she seems like a very nice person. I also think she does a terrific job organising this and other events. My only concern was by reading some of the earlier comments it seemed some people might feel left out based on their age. Segregation based on age is never a nice thing, and the solution is simple and has been mentioned a few times. Have an alternative "All other age groups dinner meetup" or something along those lines. I would have been more than happy to host such an event, but unfortunately I have other commitments tonight. A venue option could have been the surfhouse at Merewether or something like that perhaps ?

I tend to agree with you Micheal. Ppl tend to 'gravitate' to their own kind in a group and that could be age or interests in common. I remember a meetup put up by Helen at the Cambridge and there was a response of 'I am not going there, its full of 20yo ppl' so there is no pleasing everyone.

Na... that's not right... the oldest people have to be with younger and the youngest have to be with older..I'm not good at math but logic... these bloody inbetweeners... What was funny Michael was Emily and I on the lounge mostly then Tina and that lil fella across the road.. junior twirler.. we could call it a Y'old gathering juniorsgeriats ha...

May I suggest that a person with time, desire and know how arrange a Meetup for those outside this age bracket on Sat?

I had suggested same restaurant as I have heard it was great and a second table maybe. I am sure we could have promised not to mingle or approach the other table :)

Helen you have done an amazing job of organising this. Ignore the haters. Everyone needs to stop being so precious. As said by others not all meet ups are going to appeal to everyone. Nothing to stop any of you from organising your own competing meet up on the same night.

Wow now one Meetup person is judging others feeling the freedom to comment and share their concerns as "haters " and "precious" ..hmmmm....

The comments are about the meetup choices, not the person. I am sure all agree that Helen is great and this group would be less without her. I know I do :)

Hey Helen the first course & 2nd course might be problematic GF for me. But everything else looks good. I am looking forward to it.

the three most allergenic foods we eat are wheat dairy and eggs, we all are intolerant to it but unfortunately it's fed to us before our immune system is mature at 4yrs.. so we don't recognize it as much in reactions but be sure.. it's there you just don't know what normal is. till you stop.

Yeah a bit late, best time for the kitchen for bigger groups, but it's a set menu and already prepped so I'd say be eating by 8:30 :)

Thanks Michael but don't have a personal PC and have no buttons to suggest Meetups on app. I guess I then suggest the app includes such a button in future :)

      June 21, 2013

    • Michael

Ah right, I have a Windows Phone and the app on that is confusing and limiting too, and I've never seen it on Android or iPhone. I just load up the actual internet browser instead of the app and use the full site.

If that doesn't work and you'd like to run a meetup, just send me an email with all the details and I will set it up for you.

I should come up with a song for myself. Hmmmm, Call me a dirty old tranny, call me what you will. I have girls who love me and they are in their teens and 20s. There is method in the madness, there is no sadness. Whoever said life starts after 40 is totally a prophet. I know, I know, needs more work but I just thought of it.

      June 19, 2013

    • Michael

The age was mentioned in the title, the description, and as a question you see before you complete RSVP ;)

I don't head out to dinner often (and haven't been here long enough to have the inside knowledge) which is why you rarely see me creating dinner events, but if you have a nice place you'd like to take a group for a nice meal, feel free to suggest a new meetup and I will make you (or whoever else suggests it) a host.
