Holiday Decorations at National Harbor

I have heard there are some great holiday decorations at the Gaylord Hotel at National Harbor. This is indoors so weather will not be a problem.

The sun will be setting at 4:46 pm on Dec 3rd. I have class until 7pm but the group could meet earlier. Anyone up for that? If so what time?

New Info as of Nov. 30: The hotel does not allow tripods indoors. I have changed the time to 4pm to allow anyone that wants to get there before sunset to have a chance to get some nice images. The current forecast calls for Partly Cloudy skies and a high in the mid 40's. I would suggest that the group meet outside near the fountain ( link to map: http://g.co/maps/34j3n )  at the river's edge for an outdoor group shoot for the sunset. Individuals can either get there early to go inside and photograph the decorations or go in after the group shoot.

The meetup was great, as usual. I love that photographers of all skill levels can get together and share both technical and artistic ideas.

The selected location provided a lot of photo opportunities.

Given it was a Saturday night and a large convention was going on in the Gaylord it was pretty crowded in there.

If anyone has an extra camera strap I could use for the evening, I would appreciate it. I left my harness at home.

Vincent, my iPhone meetup app shows me messages as pop-ups, but I can't find where to respond. Yes, I'll host if you tell me what that entails. I'll be there by 4:15 at the fountain. (if I can find it).

Becca, I have not been to National Harbor but I do know there are a few places to eat there. Maybe someone can make a suggestion?

The hotel does not allow tripods inside. Tripods outside at National Harbor are fine. Hand holding is fine. They have indoor snow on the hour from 11am to 5pm. I will not be able to be there until after the classes that I am teaching until 7pm. I'm going to update the info above to reflect this info.

I wouldn't mind meeting earlier. I think it'll take me 1-1/2 hours to get there (coming from northern MD) so any recommendations on a place to eat or something like that might be good. I don't know the area very well, I just moved here.

Any news about them allowing tripods? Where precisely are we meeting (Gaylord Hotel is a big place). Also, would anyone like to meet earlier? If so, where and what time?

I tried the holiday decorations thing last year and for me without a tripod it did not turn out the best. I could not get the depth of field I wanted for some shots.

I have heard they do but when it gets closer I plan to go there and test it out. If they don't we can plan for earlier say 5pm.
