Good time last nite even with that crazy fog that magically made everything disappear! Learned a lot for the 1st time out doing nighttime shooting. Looking forward to doing it again!

If anyone is still around, head to the capital, it looks amazing in the fog under the flood lights

I had a great time and got a chance to put some theories I'd read into practice.

Sorry I can't make it, folks, best wishes for many cool shots! You don't need a tripod permit in front (north front) of the White House as long as you are on what used to be the old PA Ave roadbed. The 20' or so strip of sidewalk closest to the gate you can't use one. At the south front, be on the south side of E St., not the north side by the fence, and no permit is needed. I've used tripods on the Wash Monument grounds with no problems, though a group might attract attention. At the Capitol, if you are accross 1st St. NW/SW you are fine. Go up the steps of the Grant memorial/statue for a good vantage point. Likewise on the east side of 1st. St. NE/SE you are off Capitol grounds and can usually use a tripod. Hope that's useful! Happy shooting!

There is also a Columbia MD posting for a DC monuments shoot tonight at 5:30 in front of the memorial. Am assuming these are two separate groups? Putting this out there in case there is confusion at the location. There was also a lot of discussion in the other group about needing a tripod permit.

tripods are usually not an issue west of 17th street - going east from there gets more difficult the closer you get to the capitol or the white house...

Hmm so I can't figure out how to move the event host to the other Justin. Justin "the puppy" looks to be hosting tonight. I'm on Chincoteague shooting lighthouses and birds so won't make to tonight.

They are about equal. I'm stopping at FB as there is a Roti & Whole Foods right there to fill up before hand. :)

It look like few people here are interested the Monuments shoot tomorrow. Since i will be there anyway, please let me know who would like to meet at 5:30PM in front of Lincoln Memorial. my general interests would be the Memorial, reflecting pool and head down to WWII shoot the other direction. please let me know who will be interested so I have an idea who i should be looking to meet tomorrow. thanks

One other thought, can someone supply a cell phone number so in case people are lost or whatever they can text or call and catch up with us? Just thinking out loud but I've had 2 photo sessions at the Lincoln and never found my other parties.

Greetings! Look forward to this. Is there a general route or timetable in case I'm running late?

May come by depending on earlier event in Annapolis.

Does anyone have any suggestions? My backup plan was to go take pictures of the monuments if nothing has been decided. I know it's a little cliche, but there are some shots that I wanted to get and anyone is welcome to join me.

Hello everyone, Sorry to have gone dark this week but with 2 full day shoots and one half day shoot plus the start of a new DSLR class I have been doing nothing but working and sleeping! It looks like Justin suggested meeting at the Lincoln Memorial so I will change the description to reflect that. Again, sorry for going dark this week.

Not to hijack the meet but there is another meetup happen around the same time near Lincoln memorial and the reflecting pool. Maybe can be a joint meetup or nearby for some of us crash the party. :)

      January 10, 2013

    • justin

I'm up for that if others are. It looks like they're meeting at 5:30 pm.

I presume by the talk of monuments this is in the D.C. region?

    January 10, 2013

Hey - I got stuff going on in Fredericksburg too that day (I was hoping to do both too), if a location is not set upon I might be able to meetup for a couple hours Saturday night somewhere.

      January 10, 2013

    • Jennifer J.

If you want to try for something in Fredericksburg, I've got a couple ideas in mind. Just send me an email if you want to set something up. Aspiratho(at)gmail(dot)com.

I've signed up to attend this but I need some more detail on how this works. Is this an all-nighter, or do we just get together from like 6-100 kind of thing?

Is a Nikon d3100 good for this event ?

    January 7, 2013

    • Joey

Certainly...get familiar with the timer function, or buy a release and you'll be fine.

      1 · January 7, 2013

Also, bring a tripod if you have one.

      1 · January 7, 2013

The weather forecast is in our favor for Saturday night, low of 50.

    January 7, 2013

    Any ideas on location/theme yet?
