Hello everyone, I'm sorry to say that I do not think that the weather will get better. In fact I saw that there is a high probability of rain. I'm sorry I won't get a chance to meet you guys tonight and I'm sorry we won't get to see the meteor shower. I'll try to schedule another astrophotography event soon. Thanks for understanding.

I'm not going to make it after all. I've been sick for the last week and don't want to make it worse.

I'm sorry to her it but I wouldn't risk getting sicker. I plan on setting up another night shoot (sans meteor shower) the next new moon ~29 days from now. Maybe Anza or Palomar mountain.

I'll be on a plane back during the next new moon (1/11) but if it's the next day there's a very good chance I can make it.

Additionally, you will need a small flashlight, a decent tripod, and a really warm jacket as it get really cold really quickly in the desert. I plan on staying out there for about two to four hours depending on how much fun we're having. ultimately, I want to head to this location http://goo.gl/maps/zMCY7 in order to get a clear night sky devoid of light pollution. Please feel free to email me at [masked] with any questions, concerns, or comments you may have. Thank you, Ron

Everyone planning on attending this event. I want to meet in Ramona prior to heading out to the desert to start the event. If you are planning on going, please be familiar with a few functions on your camera prior to coming out. First. it is critical that you know how to use either your camera's self-timer or have a remote shutter release and know how to use it. I have a remote shutter release available for Canon users if you need it. Second, be familiar with mirror lock-up on your camera. If you have a Canon I can assist you with this function.

That is good enough for what we are doing. Typically faster glass is preferable because it cuts the amount of time the shutter stays open and therefore reduce star trails. That having been said, I use f4 lenses with no problem.

Ron - What is meant by "fast glass"? Is a[masked] f/4 "fast" enough? Thanks!

I assume you have checked and there is no moon these nights? Can't change the Geminid Meteors, or the moon, Here's hoping there won't be a moon out.

Yes I did! no moon that night so it should be good. The moon rise is at 7:34 am and it's only a waxing crescent moon. Good looking out!

Tripods are a necessity for this event as well as fast glass. I'm experienced with astrophotography and I'd be happy to help anyone willing to learn. Weather is a factor and clouds/ rain can shut this down. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Hey everyone. I think it would be better to go on Friday the 14th. It is the height of the meteor shower and its a Friday so no one has to work on Saturday... Please let me know what you think.
