Mission Peak Full Moon Hike

Status: Open to Members

NOTE: This is a week day event. It involves 5 miles of hiking on a really steep trail with 2200ft elevation gain and coming back down only with moonlight and headlights.

EVENT HOST:  Sathish Jothikumar

ABOUT THIS EVENT

Join us for a strenuous hike up Mission Peak to see the sunset and catch a full moon rise from behind the hill (weather permitting)

We will take the Peak meadow and Horse Heaven trail up, watch the Sunset and Moonrise, then take the Hidden valley trail back to be out of the park by 10:00pm.

Mission Peak is a popular destination, particularly on full-moon evenings, so you will need to arrive by 5:15pm to insure you can find a place to park (park on Stanford Ave if the lot is full).  We will start promptly at 5:30pm so we don't miss the Sunset from the top.  I usually bring a warm jacket and hat (it can get cold and windy at the top), and snacks to munch on

A track of the route can be found here,

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS (please read this first if you have questions)

  • You must have a YES RSVP to actually attend.
  • A no show to this event will be recorded.
  • You must withdraw from the event 2 days before it starts or you will be counted as a no show.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS:

Q: How do I know if I'm ready to do this?
A: Are your feet, knees and ankles in good shape? Do you have the proper footwear and clothing? Can you walk up and down 20 flights of stairs in 15 minutes without dying? While carrying your camera gear?
