Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Forest

This location is shown only to members

Join us for a journey down to the Sierras to capture the Magic that is Sequoia National Forest. Panoramic views abound in this unspoiled landscape. For some this will be a two or three night expedition with two nights wilderness backpacking. For those not interested in backpacking you can make your own arrangements.

See HERE for discussions about this event.

I am going to need drivers for the trip so if you are interested in driving please let me know. I will need to adjust the possible attendance to accommodate the possible number of people who would like to attend. I am going to set the attendance low to start. If you RSVP Yes there will be a few questions to clarify what you would like to do.

This is going to be a lot of planning therefore I don't want any flakes therefore I am charging for this meetup. This is how the charges will be applied: $20 fee = $0.88 to paypal (Thank You paypal), $2.12 to meetup group (No exceptions!!! Go ahead complain that you already paid. I don't care), $7 payment to driver of your carpool (Thank You Drivers!!!), $10 toward the gas money in your carpool. If you don't like paypal fine I understand cash is fine I will make the necessary adjustments in meetup or find a work around.

If you are backpacking to Pear Lake I also need to know this so I can get the proper backpacking permit and help organize your experience...etc. This hike is a BUTT Kicker for those of us sea levelers. There is a possibility of alt. sickness so please be prepared. Please look at the elevation profile below it is a pretty steep hike. And the path can be a narrow cliff ledge at times be warned.

If you decide to stay at a lodge (not backpacking)...great the phone number to make reservations is below. I will be happy to direct people to share a room and carpooling.

Per the profile: 2000' in 4 miles? That's a cake walk (except for the altitude part :-). Mission Peak is 2100 feet in less than 3 miles. HINT: join me summitting Mission Peak a few times and you'll know you're in shape!

2100 ft in 3 miles, now that's some nice elevation change! I'm limited to Mix Canyon Rd near Winters. It's about 2400 ft in 4 miles. Your hill is bigger. I may have to come check it out. :)

ok, so for a rookie hiker such as myself, any suggestions? I do run 3-5 miles 3 days a week right now so I can do the distance. But, I have no backpacking gear whatsoever :( waaa! i wanna hike, not stay in a hotel! Ok, I'm done whining.

I had a great time. The uphill hike was challenging but worth it. Great company and plenty of photo ops.
