Yosemite Nightphotography at May Lake (1night)

  • Sep 8, 2012 · 4:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Sunset, Milky Way, Startrails. This is a one night event. Hiking to shooting location is required, up to 2miles (one way) with elevation gain of 700ft. This is also high elevation, above 9000ft!
Please sign up on waiting list.

Event RSVP, attendance and limit, costs etc:

This event is limited to 9. A lottery was held on August 23th. If someone drops out, one from the waitling list gets the spot.

There will be a cost of $6.75 (incl. PayPal fees) per person to cover the costs of the permit (the area is wilderness and night access is only allowed with permit). There are no additional fees for camping and no camping reservation required for that night.
This fee needs to be paid by the attendee within 2 days after RSVP has been changed to Yes (you'll get a notification with payment information). Refunds when you cancel only when your spot can be filled by someone else!

If you change to a "NO" status less than 3 days prior to the event you are counted as a No-Show.  I'm tracking no Shows for this event. Guests are not permitted.

Accommodation suggestions:
With the wilderness permit everyone in the group is authorized to stay at the backpackers campground one night before and after the event if you want to (White Wolf, North pines, Tuolumne Meadows, Hetch Hetchy).
For the backpackers campground is no reservation required and won't be full.
It costs $5 per person and night to be paid in cash at the campground. Rangers may ask for the wilderness permit number (I'll give you that number after you paid the wilderness permit fee).
Other suggestions, read here:

nice. I would remove the pictures where the tree was lit up assuming that are only single frames/pictures. You can also make the video longer if you go with 29.xxi fps interlaced.

I used an open source tool called ffmpeg using options mentioned by other users on the internet. Bu thanks for the tip. I will try the interlaced option.

Such a great night to be there. The sky held the clouds just through sunset which gave fantastic colors then cleared up! The company was the best.

Fantastic weekend! Many thanks to Enrico for a very well organized meet-up and the fun group that joined. The views were breathtaking and we had the best of both worlds... partly cloudy late afternoon skies that cleared to allow for good night photography. How Enrico planned it this way, I can't tell you, but it was great ;-) Can't wait for the next trip to Yosemite!

I'd also like to share a ride. Anyone from the south bay?

BTW, How are we supposed to make the payments?
It says "This fee needs to be paid by the attendee within 2 days after RSVP has been changed to Yes (you'll get a notification with payment information)". I haven't received any emails about the payments.
