Nittany Nordic is dedicated to establishing groomed cross country ski trails in State College, beginning with Circleville Park and the Haugh Preserve (In Patton Township with parking off Circleville and Valley Vista roads). Although making your own trails or skiing in trails made by others is fun, groomed trails make the sport more enjoyable and accessible, and, for those who like speed, faster! These trails will be used for education, training and enjoyment by the entire community. The trails are supported by Centre Region Parks and Recreation, Patton Township and the Haugh Family Preserve Committee, but the acquisition of trail-making equipment, grooming, maintenance and use is totally volunteer and will require club member commitment. The initiative has also received enthusiastic support from Appalachian Outdoor and we plan to find other local business sponsors as well. Club membership will raise money for machine-grooming equipment and organize and promote events such as ski outings, training, wax clinics and just-for-fun races. Currently the trails are groomed manually, but as Nittany Nordic grows, the club will expand the trail system with machine-pulled professional grooming equipment. Trails are groomed shortly after it snows and will remain in place until they are drifted over (which can happen quickly when it is windy) or until the snow melts. The more people that ski in the trails the stronger they are and the longer they will last. So join Nittany Nordic to support this effort, get more information and to be alerted with trail-grooming news.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
