Richard Scott "You believe in a book that has talking animals, wizards, witches, demons, sticks turning into snakes, food falling from the sky, people walking on water, and all sorts of magical, absurd and primitive stories, and you say that we are the ones that need help?" ~Dan Barker

The key to being original is to ship the ideas across the state line only after you've filed off the serial numbers, and if you ever have an idea as original as "this talking snake tempted her into a scrumping" then you should take a break from the drugs. Seriously, look at L. Ron, all money and no art. Sad, sad end even for a hack like him.

Hey, Pastor Scott, despite my doubts about talking mules, angels and phoenixes, I really have a hard time believing a designer of this earth and universe doesn't have a designer themselves, or require one, or even have a father or grandfather. Please help one who is about to lose faith keep it. In love because of the blood on the cross. Nick Lewis one of the sheep...

Oil didn't exist yet (do not remember if they responded to that Q?) and decay was the punishment for sin.
Only in the garden before sin was there no decay.

Maybe edible oils are quicker to make, Jesus liked expensive oils(not decayed matter) and perfumes sprinkled over his humanly god flesh, so possibly (BP beyond possible) Jesus was the first environmentalist, and if so, couldn't he have assembled, by some miracle of faith, a better seal to cap reason run amuck....?

Which is why God would have us run everything on olive oil!
Choose this day life or death, Blessing or a curse. Sin brought death, deterioration yesa degeneration. Hallelujah! But Jesus brought life! Glory!
So choose living oil! In Jesus name praise be to God!

No different from all other mythology books - Egyptian, Greek, Chinese (the bible has parts left out - but even those are fantastic) - I see it as a book with fragments and puzzles to solve.

Writer, Graham Hancock says we are a species with amnesia of our origin.

It is nice, in an overly commercialized one narrow strip of beach kind of way. Matt is the first guy I ever knew to come from that area and not be conservatice. Lots of gun racks in the back of trucks kind of place....

Hey fellow Atheists, ask any Christian what a City of Refuge is and 99% of them will stare at you like a deer in the you know whats, and if you really feel sadistic ask them about their feelings on how Ham's curse played out, and then if they clap for an encore, ask them this, why does Esther never mention a god thing? Hope all you folks of reason have a great weekend and keep allowing your brain that tremendous feeling of thinking for itself....

this is a tough one.. it's called 'The Metaphysical Foundations of Logic.' by Martin Heidegger. It's a text more affluently written in English in his later years after his misinterpreted association with the Nazi party.

It basically states that all scientific measures towards understanding come from a one basic understanding through which came about in Rene Descartes and his understanding of what is understood as 1st Philosophy. because it's the first question. Why? came later in understanding. It's hard for us to imagine this now in our time, but at first it was what?
is this? 1600 years passed by. It was a 60 page book.

The man was damned for heresy.
You've heard of the Cartesian grid?

Our modern concept of space. and what Rene Descarte could never absolve was the existence of God and so science has forever evolved along this one basic presupposition that was given and yet has no ability to recognize the ground upon which it stands. which is precisely that god must exist.

god and science are closer than you could ever imagine.
but you've got to thank those germans for inventing that printing press.

Richard, each to their own beliefs.... at least we believe in something.... see a Dr. Mr. Atheist! U can't push off your beliefs on other people. U protest for the attention... I feel sorry for u that u never got the attention when u really needed it. Stick to your atheism... and go to ?????.
If u feel so strong about this, then one does not have to gloat about it. Remember the therory of 99% or who we came from. I can see this in u, just from writing.

Denise, 1) 99% of those folks when stating "each to their own beliefs" mean, " but you are still going to HELL because otherworldly justice lurks afterdeath". LOL
2) To each his own can't be reconciled with the child who has FAITH 2+2=5, and insists their 2nd grade teacher grades their math test accordingly.
3) Feel Strongly please don't gloat, Hello, Christianity has an unprecedented number of gloaters in Heaven, or have you forgotten this delusional fact of FAITH?
NEXT.....

Denise,
why do you NEED to believe in something? Why do you feel someone who doesn't believe in your god needs attention? Why is it when Xtians push their views, they're saving people, when atheists pronounce belief (or lack thereof), we're militant or craving attention? What scares you so much?
And we can't go to hell... there is no hell! (well, we finished 8 years of GW... that was pretty close)

I never said, u had to believe in my gods.....I meant we r 99% ape. LOL! I am not Christian! Why do u feel u have to belong or advertise that u r Atheist? It goes both ways. What I believe in, I will keep to myself.....Do u believe u r alive today? Do u believe there r beautiful tree and flowers in the world? I do not believe there is a hell, but I do not believe in advertising in my beliefs. I have nothing to be scared of....trust me! Maybe u r the one that needs this constant attention. yes, the war is hell. Have a wonderful day, and u have an obsession with yourself. As God, would say....Love thyself....shame on u...sounds like u. And, I just said, this as a quote. I do not quote from the bible. Have a good one....Keep your sanity. LOL!

What about evolution? How would u know about heaven? There r people that crave attention all over the world. I have to agree with that comment, Christians and J. Witness's want to save people from hell. But, there is no hell..... there is reincarnation....where the h.... do u think your soul came from? I guess, Luciifer. LOL!

We're pushing back against the religious right for one, and fighting to keep this a secular nation. If FB gives us an outlet, then that is great. Do you know how many religious posts get put on here??? This is the kind of thing that happens when you put a bunch of rational thinkers on the same page. We speak out against what we believe is wrong in this world and it mostly pertains to religion.

Denise, what soul? How do you know you have one? Can you see it? Reincarnation? It's bad enough to consider how f*&ked up some people are, to entertain the thought they might come back for another try!
How would I know about heaven? I said no such thing, and have to say, there is no such thing.

Denise, sounds like a troll. No bother.
But, times we do explain why there are people like Dan Barker and us. Jason explained why we exist.
I have a few close friends that think like Denise and really its just contradictory to their life and in fact to all human life.
They are just not thinking hard enough about the philosophical implications of their statement.
@Kevin, Thanks for the link!
