Re: [atheists-619] Fwd: Idea for Outreach & Fundraising

I like the idea, but there's a lot of competition here.  It's quite a bit of work and can be difficult to find a free weekend to hold a new race.  The most popular races have something unique (e.g. a relay), a popular charity (e.g. THON), or are associated with another event (e.g. 4th Fest, Arts, Fest, etc.).  If anyone wants to pursue this, here a link from the local running club on directing races: http://nvrun.com/index.php/racing/race-directors/race-director-primer .  Also, here's the local race calendar (select local from the drop down): http://nvrun.com/index.php/racing

Hi, Blake -- Thank you for yet another creative idea.  I hate the outdoors, exercise, and all such things but might well participate if you get it set up ... sounds FUN!

Hi, All -- Here's an idea from our newest NFT Member.  If you like it, please respond enthusiastically to her.  Sounds like she'll be back in time for our Sept. 20 meeting at Panera's.

Hi Chuck,
How about sponsoring a fun run/walk for awareness? I had the idea that it could be called the "Primal 5K" and celebrate our evolutionary history. We could have it be on local trails combined with a hike for those who don't run. We could have the regular 5k running competition, but also categories for participants/teams who participate by doing the course in a evolution-humanist related costume or who make donations to a good cause.
Here's an example that was done in Lehigh, PA

Just a thought!

See you when I get back, the second half of September, and have a nice time in Harrisburg,
Blake
