Looking for volunteers for my Hood to Coast team this year. This is the 32nd annual running of the largest relay race in the world! If you would like to be a part of it, let me know! We had NoPo volunteers last year and they had a great time. Plus you get a free shirt!
Typical volunteer time is a few hours, not a whole day. Lots of standing around watching the race from what I hear.
You want to register on June 17th as this is first come, first served. So you can be sure you are soaking up some sun for a few hours on the Hawthorne bridge rather than picking up trash like a convict on the side of a highway.
Volunteer positions include...
VOLUNTEER: Working at the Exchange (various duties, i.e. calling out race numbers, parking race vans, garbage/recycling). Last shift will also assist in clean-up of exchange area.
MONITOR: Reports to Exchange and then is given directions to drive (with one other monitor) to a specific turn on course. Directs participants and van traffic at turn. Good for volunteers that need to stay in one place or sit (bring a folding chair)! You will report to the assigned exchange and then may be given instructions to drive to a specific turn on the course.
EQUIPMENT SITTER: Remains at Exchange with equipment between waves of PTC walkers and HTC runners.
START AREAS: Assist with team check-in, equipment check-in and/or set-up
NOTE: HTC Start (Timberline Lodge, Mt. Hood), PTC Start (Downtown Portland)
FINISH AREA Work on the beach at Seaside. Assist with tasks such as check-in, information, table/chair set up, Trash and Recycling Management
Volunteer registration is from June 17th through July 17th.
Actual Race Date: August 23 & 24, 2013
