Hardcore Saturday (long run+brunch)

Hey NoPo's - Who wants to stay in race shape this winter? I propose Hardcore Saturday, whereby we get together for long runs on Saturday mornings, followed by brunch at a friendly location for those who want.
My thinking is a consistent course (just like Wednesday) but in the 12-18 mile range, with a nice hill or three to make it interesting. I'll find us a good location with parking and a friendly restaurant who will cater to our group if I get a few takers. Let me know what you think!

Looking forward to this Saturday. Same place, same time (Fresh Pot, 8a). I'll try to make a recurring meetup post in the meantime.

Thanks Corban for organizing this run. I needed a long run that offered a little bit of everything. Can't wait for next week!

I see you changed the start to N Mississippi. This give those of us who are not big fans of trails some road running. I see that to Forest Partk is about 4 miles one way. How far up the trail do you think you might go?

Hey everyone -- I'm changing our meetup location to the Fresh Pot on N Mississippi but we're still headed to Forest Park for the long run. We'll run from Fresh Pot to Lower MacLeay Park via the Broadway Bridge and then up the trail (and back). Starting at Fresh Pot provides a warm pre- and post- run location and we'll be right by brunch locations after the run. I will be at the Beer Run tonight so come say hi if you can find me :).

Corban, didn't see you tonight. Do you think this saturday thing is going to happen? Also, how many miles?

    December 19, 2012

    • Matthew F.

Ok, lets do it. Ill meet you at the trail head where that location link directs to? I've actually never been to Macleay Park before. If I'm late I'm just lost.

Looking forward to trail scouting tomorrow. We should also talk to some restaurants in the area to figure out who can handle our brunch rush.

Not a fan of trail runs. Do like longer distances. Any others interested in non-trail runs? I know of a few nice routes.

I would be interested in changing up the location to keep it interesting once the group gets up and running (so to speak ;) I know there are lots of paved multi-use trails around the Portland area. I'd be open to some paved running as well.

We can do other routes, but should maintain a consistent starting location. I think this is one of the reasons Wednesday works so well..

I see that the date for this is set for next weekend. I probably won't be able to make that one because I will have family in town. Anyone interested in a longish run this weekend? There's a group of 20 or so people that will be running a loop around Hagg Lake as a training run for the Hagg Lake Ultra. I think once around the lake would be about 15 miles. To get there looks like about 22 miles west of me (I'm in Hillsboro.) We could do that or something more local. Here is the event page for the Hagg Lake run: https://www.facebook.com/events/433716430020789/

I'm interested in a long run this Saturday but Hagg Lake is a too far for me to travel to. Would you like to trail scout with me at Forest Park?

Hey all, it looks like Forest Park is the consensus favorite venue. I suggest we meet at Lower MacLeay Park at 8am (a week from Saturday). We'll do an out and back--I'm going to run 12 miles this first time and work back up to 18 miles over the following weeks. Are you guys interested in staying together as a group and working our way up in mileage together?

I need to do something like that... I dont run that distance usually but I am game.

This sounds great! I just moved here from FL and I've got 1 week of cold/wet running under my belt now. I was just thinking to myself how it was going to be tough to get motivation to run anything longer than 6ish miles on my own, would love to meet up for a group for something longer on the weekends. I haven't been to Forest Park yet and would love to check it out (love trail running!)

After the new year, I'd be interested in something in the 8-11 mile range. Leif Erickson is very popular on the weekends which makes parking difficult with groups. Lower MacLeay is a nice start and you can adjust the mileage for each runner. From our usual NoPo starting place, I have a route that crosses the river to west side, through the Pearl and along the waterfront.

Looks like we have something here! Let's talk about it some more at the beer run tomorrow. I'll be wearing a white, long sleeve nike running shirt if you don't otherwise recognize me.

I'm in too! I love Forest Park but it could be fun to mix it up and check out other locations too.

Forest Par works for me, as long as we aren't looking to break any speed records. ;)

Great Idea! I typically do a long one like this every weekend and would love to have the same type of fun I did at the beer run last week.

I would suggest leif erickson drive. No cars to worry about, straight out and back as far as anyone cares to go, and there are a bunch of brunch places nearby.

I may not be able to make next weekend, but if you consistently schedule them, I'll be able to make quite a few of them.
