Node.JS OC Main Mtg 2014.03: Filling in the Gaps

Filling in the gaps: A Node.js discussion about something other than express.js

Summary:

It seems like most Node.js intros/tutorials are some variant of building a RESTful app server with express.js. While this is a great way to get up and running quickly, it fails to address the core principles, patterns, and pitfalls of production Node.js development. This discussion is meant to eliminate "deep magic" and fill in gaps for Node.js developers at all levels of experience.

Topics include:
- Async, non-blocking I/O, and other buzzwords
- Node in Production (automation, deploying, scaling, and calls)
- Isomorphic Javascript

Speaker:

Our presenter Mark is a full stack developer and engineer (formerly of SpeakUp, Blizzard, and Quest Software). He’s has been using Node.js in production since 2012.

Food & Drinks: "quality pizza (as 3-topping Round Table pizza) + soda for attendees wanting it";  snacks may also be provided by Drumbi.

Agenda:
• Mingle & Munching
• Round of Intros/Announcements
Speaker: Mark Wilkerson
• More Mingle

Our Past Meetings give a good picture of what this will be like.

______________
Listing Creation: main content including topics&speaker selection by Eddy; detail&definition links&threads, arranging food&drinks, and small formatting improvements by Destiny; agenda is effectively Eddy's short&sweet instantiation of Destiny's general-purpose M0TAGN; descriptive title by both.

FOOD & DRINKS AT THIS EVENT --put all on that here in this thread
*Just as all recent main mtgs, we've had this available to everyone!
*We'll have _quality_ pizza (as 3-topping Roundtable pizza) + soda for attendees wanting it.
**Note last time I compute 55% no-shows http://meetup.com/Node-JS-OC/ev... which "caused [Ron] to ordered too many large pizzas(I counted ~3 extra) so [we'll] multiply the RSVP-YES count less [this] time",est accordingly.
*In our recent main mtgs SourceThought via Ron has provided us all pizza (_~1-topping Pizza Hut_) & sodas as I mentioned at http://meetup.com/Node-JS-OC/ev... &gave away free.
*RON OR ANYONE,want to bring us "_quality_ pizza (as 3-topping Roundtable pizza) + soda for attendees wanting it" on a cost-recovery basis (~$2/slice+free soda) else as a mtg sponsor?
**If no "YES" by 1.5hrs before start,I'll do it via cost-recovery.

Ron Frohock http://meetup.com/Node-JS-OC/me... PARTICIPATION & REVIEW OF THIS EVENT --put all on that here in this thread
*In all recent past meetings (as at last http://meetup.com/Node-JS-OC/ev... ) he has pizza & drinks for everyone on behalf of his co he CTO's http://SourceThought.com
*It's now ~3hrs to mtg start time and I see here no news of this and don't see Ron on the RSVP list, so I now RSVPed him YES to notify him & so invite him in the planning here: see & reply on my next thread on this listing: "FOOD & DRINKS AT THIS EVENT".

*****And if Mark or any mbr's not RSVPed YES,u&any group organizer, simply take a min to RSVP him/her YES then add the “participation & review” thread for him/her where u say u YES-RSVPed him/her tentatively to invite him in on the conversation u then post here.
**Heard from Mark? As per this event listing's official description(above), which I gather so far all ur Eddy's handiwork,it's appearing:
**Mark's agreed to speak per u writing there:
“Speaker:<br/>Mark is a full stack developer and engineer (formerly of SpeakUp, Blizzard, and Quest Software). He’s has been using Node.js in production since 2012. ”
      **There it/u also says: “
      Topics include
      - Async, non-blocking I/O, and other buzzwords
      - Node in Production (automation, deploying, scaling, and calls at 3am )
      - Isomorphic Javascript”
BUT it appears that list could apply to the speaker OR the group, so what Mark's talking on is not yet clear (pls clarify).
*Mark & Eddy especially, what's ur thoughts? -simply Reply comment here.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
