I should restate that/clarify... I'd be interested in hearing discussions on organizing nodejs apps with modules in a similar spirit to the 'organizing your backbone.js application with modules. Perhaps it would be worth pulling out a few interesting apps and discuss their code organization practices...?

I enjoyed this post last week: goo.gl/4WouJ "Organizing Your Backbone.js Application With Modules". It would be interesting to have a talk that introduces a few patterns with discussion on other's practices.
I dont think a talk on debuggers would take too long maybe a half hour. But it'll do it at the next meetup if we have enough interest.

I'd like to see the talk on debugging, james. Sounds like an agenda is coming together around a survey of modules people use with a talk on either debugging or a framework. In any case I'm looking forward to it.
Thats a good idea. I have been using node-inspect and playing around with intellij's debugger as well with node. I'd do a talk on it if anyone is interested.
Also, I would very much like to hear people's experience with debugging Node applications, especially with an actual debugger (like using V8 debugger via node-inspector).
Ilya, I think this is a great idea.

How about we discuss Node's competing frameworks, the viability of long-term projects on Node, perhaps its weaker and stronger sides? I think it would be beneficial to everybody using Node to know exactly what they invest their time in.
I'm down to grab a beer somewhere in Cambridge/Somerville tonight if anyone's interested.

Wasn't able to look into a venue, so rescheduling seems to be the best bet.
Yeah I don't know why there was a date assigned to this meetup. We definitely need to get this thing kicked off. I wish it was easier for me to post official stuff to this board.
Is this not happening tonight due to no location? Should we reschedule?
Good question, Mitchell. Anyone booked a venue for this. If not, I can look into some of the usual spots in Kendall (NERD, Dogpatch, etc.)

Any idea where this is going to be held?
looking forward to our first meetup. lots of action with node these days. we should maybe have a roundup of the top modules every month and let members discuss any modules they are working on.

Maybe we could combine the chat and video concepts for the first session, extend the classic 10-line chat server to include simple video sharing to highlight node's strengths in handling concurrent media streams

I am currently hacking on a youtube transcoding app. Its pretty nice because I have 2 large async jobs. Getting the video from youtube and then transcoding. Its amazing simple to start these async long running jobs and not worry about threading!
I think the chat app is something we can all agreed on as the first meetup :)
Last time I did a node meetup, we worked on producing the chat app and it was very beneficial to all.
After the chat app, perhaps we could look at code organization methods.
I doubt I'll be able to hit many of the node.js meetups. I'd love to see the slides live / remotely though via Tim's node.js slide switcher. ;)

Maybe a bunch of us could get together before or after the jquery meetup and chat about the nodejs group.

Hey James, yup I'll be at the jQuery meetup.
This first "meetup" is completely online I want to give the opportunity for people to join and offer talk/discussion pitches.
Tim thanks for starting this group. I was surprised Boston didn't already have one. Will you be at the next jquery meet up?

Working on getting a lineup speaker and figuring out the perfect time each month to routinely meet!
Also looking for sponsors!
