NodeJS Meet and Greet

NodeJS is attracting a lot of attention. Whether you're involved with Node or new to it and interested in what it is, come to our "Meet and Greet" and help kick-start the NodeJS developer community in South Florida.

Stuart Malin, organizer of this group and a seasoned NodeJS developer, will make a presentation that addresses the five "journalistic Ws" of NodeJS:

• Who should use it
• What it is (and is not)
• Why it is (so very) misunderstood
• When it will be ready for production use
• Where you can find out more information

This meeting is being sponsored by the ExperisIT (a staffing firm).

Stuart Malin is a Senior Software Developer with Prolexic Technologies in Hollywood, Florida. Prolexic, the world's premier provider of DDoS mitigation services, has embraced NodeJS for mission-critical systems, and is building advanced, high performance "big data" systems with NodeJS and other "next generation" technologies.

As the organizer of this group, my primary goals for the group are (1) to enhance the use of NodeJS by professional software developers, and (2) to foster "community" among those using, or interested in using, NodeJS. Anything that runs contrary to these goals is counter-productive. I formed this group on Meetup to be an open, NOT restricted, group. It is NOT my intent to limit participation or attendance to anyone who has a bona fide interest in advancing the use and understanding of NodeJS. I am hopeful that the population of NodeJS Enthusiasts in southeast Florida expands. To me, it is important that NodeJS adoption by businesses expands. Recruiters play a role in this. I owe my present job to one. That said, decorum at meetings is essential, and further, I don't ever want to hear that developers avoid meetings because of the presence of recruiters. Some ground-rules may be needed regarding this, and constraints imposed on the activities of sponsors. I invite your comments, please.

Would love to see that Pete. I'm interested in diving deeper into Node so I'd find an intro program valuable.

I attended the meeting, and I thought it was pretty good until Jeff Brown from Experis had the police escort me out because I walked in with a recruiter.

Fact #1: I've been a member of this group, as I am a member of many groups in the local community, for the purpose of learning new technologies, trends and supporting the local community. Fact #2: I received an invite for a public event, for which I invited friends, that happened to be software engineers expressing an interest in Node. Fact #3: I never worked for Experis and have been with Octagon all along. I look forward to continuing to attend meetings, as we, in the technology profession continue to promote the advancement of knowledge. Octagon Technology Staffing has, and will always, maintain the highest level of professionalism.

Neither the police officer nor I asked you and the 2 others to leave. It was not an event for recruiters or vendors. Typically these type of events get over run with recruiters and we wanted to preserve the integrity of the event which in to enlighten and educate people to a great technology like NodeJS. The fact that Bianca came into my place of business to recruit was unprofessional. The fact that she had to be removed by police says even more.

If anyone would like more details I ask them to contact me directly.
